MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM – North Sumatra has officially reached a historic milestone after the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) confirmed the province as the host of the ASEAN U-19 Boys' Championship 2026 (AFF U-19) on May 25, 2026. The decision places North Sumatra in the spotlight of Southeast Asian youth football for the first time, breaking Java's long-standing dominance as Indonesia's primary venue for international tournaments.

Bobby Nasution immediately responded to the announcement by accelerating all preparation processes across relevant regional agencies. The goal is to ensure that all sporting facilities meet international standards ahead of the tournament.
He emphasized the importance of inter-agency coordination to guarantee smooth execution and maximize the opportunity to position North Sumatra as a rising hub for sports tourism in Indonesia.

Stadiums and Training Facilities Upgraded
The provincial government is preparing several key venues, including the

Authorities stated that the focus will be on quality, safety, and international compliance. The infrastructure upgrades aim not only to meet technical requirements but also to present a positive image of the region to international visitors.
