MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The 2026 Badminton Tournament organized by PB Mitra Sporty Medan officially came to a close on Saturday evening, May 16, 2026. The closing ceremony was held at GOR Badminton Willy Randi, Jalan Marelan VII Gang Ridho, Tanah Enam Ratus, Medan Marelan District, and was formally officiated by Head of Medan Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora), Tengku Chairuniza, alongside Chairman of the Medan Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), Aswindy Fachrizal.
In his remarks, Tengku Chairuniza emphasized the crucial role of sports in shaping young character and preventing social issues such as drug abuse and the growing threat of online gambling.
"Support sports activities, prevent drug abuse, and combat online gambling," he stated.
He also reaffirmed the Medan City Government's commitment to strengthening sports, education, and health infrastructure while continuously supporting positive community activities.
"We support all community-driven initiatives and continue to strengthen sports, education, and health development in Medan," he added.
Chairuniza further highlighted ongoing efforts to develop young badminton athletes and other sports talents to represent Medan at both national and international levels. He also conveyed greetings from Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Bayu Waas and Deputy Mayor Zakiyuddin Harahap.

KONI Medan Applauds Tournament Success
Chairman of
KONI Medan, Aswindy Fachrizal, praised the smooth execution of the tournament, describing it as an important platform for athletic development and healthy competition.
"KONI Medan fully appreciates and supports sports events like this," he said.
He also encouraged the continued organization of similar tournaments, referring to previous successful sporting events with strong participation across various disciplines.

45 Days of Competition with Strong Participation
PB Mitra Sporty Medan Secretary Irfandi, along with the organizing committee, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, including government agencies and sports organizations, for their support.
The tournament ran for more than 45 days, starting on April 1, 2026, and was held at two venues: GOR Willy Randi and GOR Raja Mandiri. A total of 60 athletes participated, consisting of 44 male and 16 female competitors across three categories.
The competition ran smoothly, safely, and in the spirit of fair play, while also strengthening camaraderie among badminton enthusiasts in Medan.

Winners received trophies and development incentives, while all participants were also provided with basic necessity packages and non-cash rewards regardless of ranking. (IDNC)
