MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The opening of the Dojang Adhyaksa Taekwondo Club at the Adhyaksa Dharmakarini School in Medan was held in a festive atmosphere on Thursday, September 3, 2026. A number of political, government, and sports figures attended the event, which is part of efforts to strengthen the development of young Taekwondo athletes in Medan.
Amid the festive atmosphere, however, the absence of a representative from the Medan City Youth and Sports Office (Dispora Medan) was noticeable. No representative of the agency was seen at the opening of the Taekwondo training facility, despite the event being directly related to sports development and the advancement of the younger generation.
Based on observations at the venue, several government officials and sports figures attended the event at the Adhyaksa Dharmakarini School. Their presence underscored support for the development of Taekwondo and for the establishment of a facility dedicated to nurturing young athletes within a school environment.
Among those in attendance were Medan Chief Prosecutor Ridwan Sujana Angsar, Medan City Education Office Secretary Andy Yudhistira, Medan City branch chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), Aswindy Fachrizal, chairman of Taekwondo Indonesia (TI) Medan City, Riza Budiwan, as well as members of the Taekwondo Indonesia Medan City board.
Dojang as a Center for Young Athlete Development
The opening of the
Dojang Adhyaksa Taekwondo Club represents a step toward expanding opportunities for the development of Taekwondo, particularly among students and young people. The training facility is expected to provide children with an opportunity to become familiar with, learn, and further develop their skills in the martial art originating from South Korea.
The dojang serves not only as a venue for athletes to conduct regular training. The facility also plays an important role in developing discipline, a competitive mindset, and technical skills from an early age.
Continuous development is also a crucial factor in producing successful athletes. Within a school environment, athletes can be trained progressively before taking part in competitions at the city, provincial, and national levels.
Therefore, support from various stakeholders, including the local government, is highly important to ensure the sustainability of sports development programs. Such support may take the form of coordination, facilitating events, providing necessary facilities, and supporting athletes.
Against this backdrop, the absence of a
Dispora Medan representative at the opening of the
Dojang Adhyaksa Taekwondo Club drew particular attention. This was especially notable because the event was directly connected to sports development and the advancement of young people in Medan.

Medan Chief Prosecutor Calls for Dispora Support
The issue of local government support for sports activities was also raised by Medan Chief Prosecutor Ridwan Sujana Angsar in his speech.
Ridwan said the school had previously conveyed various needs and expectations regarding support for sports activities at the dojang. He then called for continued communication with
Dispora Medan.
"The principal has already spoken about support and other matters. As far as I understand, when it comes to sports activities, the relevant agency is Dispora. Please convey our greetings to them," Ridwan said in his speech.
The statement highlights the need for coordination among various institutions in operating and further developing the
Dojang Adhyaksa Taekwondo Club. As a venue for youth development, the school requires appropriate support to ensure that training programs and sports activities can be carried out sustainably.
Ridwan also indicated his willingness to coordinate with Dispora Medan to discuss the continuation of sports activities at the dojang.
"We will coordinate later regarding the continuation of the activities. Of course, Dispora will subsequently support the sports activities," he said.
The statement also highlights the important role of local government in supporting sports development facilities established within school environments. Cooperation between schools, sports organizations, and government institutions is expected to contribute to the development of a better-structured athlete development system.
This is because athlete development is not limited to regular training sessions. Athletes need opportunities to compete, coaching, appropriate facilities, and continuous development programs to further improve their abilities.

KONI and TI Medan Support the New Dojang
Meanwhile, the presence of KONI Medan City chairman Aswindy Fachrizal and Taekwondo Indonesia Medan City chairman Riza Budiwan demonstrated the support of sports organizations for the establishment of the Dojang Adhyaksa Taekwondo Club.
The presence of the Taekwondo Indonesia Medan City board also signals that the dojang has the potential to become one of the centers for developing young Taekwondo athletes in Medan.
Cooperation with sports organizations will be important to the development process going forward. Athletes who demonstrate progress and competitive ability can be directed to participate in various championships, allowing them to gain continuous competition experience.
The school also occupies a strategic position in this process. The educational environment makes it possible to combine athletic development with academic education. With an appropriate development program, students can improve their sporting abilities without neglecting their responsibilities as students.
The opening of the Dojang Adhyaksa Taekwondo Club is therefore more than simply the inauguration of a new training facility. It is also part of efforts to create an environment for athlete development from childhood and adolescence.
The prospects for producing successful
young athletes will now depend on how all stakeholders ensure the sustainability of the development program. Schools, sports organizations, local government, coaches, parents, and athletes must each play their respective roles so that the facility can make a sustainable contribution to the development of Taekwondo.
With strong support and effective coordination, the Dojang Adhyaksa Taekwondo Club is expected to produce talented young athletes who can achieve success not only at the Medan city level but also compete at regional and national levels.
The newly opened training facility also provides an opportunity to further strengthen school sports development in Medan. The challenge now is to ensure that support for youth athlete development continues, including active participation from the local government and institutions responsible for sports development.
