MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Medan Mayor, Rico Waas, officially inaugurated the Fun Walk on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, as part of the Pekan Kuliner Halal, Aman, dan Sehat (KHAS) 2026 series. The event, organized by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Medan Chapter, took place along Jalan Mesjid Raya, drawing thousands of enthusiastic participants from all age groups.
Since early morning, crowds gathered at the venue, with children, teenagers, and adults taking part in the mass sporting activity that promotes physical fitness, social interaction, and a healthy lifestyle.
Promoting Healthy Living and Social SolidarityThe opening ceremony was attended by Member of Parliament Musa Rajekshah and MUI Kota Medan Chairman Hasan Matsum, alongside Mayor Rico Waas.
Rico Waas emphasized that events such as the Fun Walk play an important role in encouraging a healthier lifestyle while strengthening social bonds among residents.
"The most important thing is that we are healthy and happy today. Hopefully, this Fun Walk brings blessings and makes the Pekan KHAS organized by MUI Medan even better in the future," he said.
He further highlighted that mass sporting events are not only beneficial for physical health but also serve as a platform to reinforce community unity.
Islamic New Year 1448 Hijriah CelebrationDuring the event, the mayor also extended greetings for the Islamic New Year 1448 Hijriah, describing it as a moment for reflection and strengthening social cohesion within the community.
The high turnout demonstrated the strong sense of togetherness among Medan residents, which is seen as an important foundation for regional development.
Excitement Builds During Prize DrawFollowing the walk, participants eagerly awaited the lucky draw session featuring attractive prizes. The grand prizes included two Umrah travel packages, along with bicycles, televisions, and various other gifts.
The prize draw created a lively atmosphere, keeping many participants engaged until the end of the event.
Pekan KHAS is an annual program initiated by the MUI Kota Medan to promote the Islamic economy, support halal-certified products, and strengthen small and medium enterprises (SMEs). In 2026, the program was expanded with the addition of the Fun Walk, further increasing public participation. (IDNC)
