BANDA ACEH | INDATANEWS.COM - The Deputy Governor of Aceh, Fadhlullah, received a delegation from the Aceh Ulema Consultative Council (MPU Aceh) on Thursday, June 4, 2026, during an official audience held in his office. The meeting focused on efforts to standardize the implementation of Islamic inheritance law (Mawaris) under Aceh's special autonomy framework, with the aim of ensuring a unified interpretation and consistent application across society.

Also present at the meeting were representatives from the Aceh Syar'iyah Court (Mahkamah Syar'iyah Aceh), the Governance and Special Autonomy Division of the Aceh Regional Secretariat, as well as several heads of regional government agencies.

High-Level Consultation in Banda Aceh

The discussion highlighted various challenges encountered in the practical implementation of Islamic inheritance law within the community. Participants emphasized the need for stronger institutional alignment between MPU Aceh and the Syar'iyah Court to ensure legal clarity and effective enforcement.

Officials also underlined that inconsistencies in interpretation have, at times, created confusion in society, reinforcing the urgency for harmonized legal guidelines.

Unified Interpretation of Mawaris Law

The core focus of the meeting was the harmonization of legal interpretations related to Mawaris (Islamic inheritance law). Both religious scholars and judicial authorities agreed on the importance of developing a shared understanding to prevent differing rulings in practice.

The coordination is expected to serve as a foundation for improving legal certainty and ensuring that Islamic legal principles are applied uniformly across Aceh.

Strengthening Coordination and Legal Certainty

Deputy Governor Fadhlullah welcomed the initiative and stressed the importance of collaboration between religious scholars, the judiciary, and the government in implementing Sharia-based regulations in Aceh.

"We want everything to run smoothly, in accordance with Aceh's special autonomy," Fadhlullah said during the meeting.

He further noted that Aceh's special status in Islamic law can only be optimally implemented through continuous coordination and consistent interpretation among institutions. This approach, he added, is essential to resolving societal issues without creating legal disparities.

The meeting is seen as a strategic step toward strengthening cooperation between MPU Aceh and the Syar'iyah Court, with both institutions expected to develop joint guidelines for the application of Islamic inheritance law in the future. (IDNC)
