MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM – Medan Mayor Rico Waas took part in the slaughtering ceremony of sacrificial animals at Masjid Al-Muttaqin, Jalan Hanura, Tanjung Rejo Subdistrict, Medan Sunggal District, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. The event was held as part of Eid al-Adha 1447 H celebrations in a spirit of unity and togetherness.
Rico Waas expressed his strong personal connection to Masjid Al-Muttaqin, noting that this marks the second time he has performed his Qurban at the mosque during his tenure as mayor.
"This is already the second time during my tenure as mayor that I have performed my Qurban here at Masjid Al-Muttaqin. It does not feel complete if I do not carry out the sacrifice at my own home, which is here," Rico Waas said.

He further emphasized that Eid al-Adha is not merely a religious ritual, but also a moment to strengthen values of sacrifice, sincerity, and sharing with others. Happiness, he noted, should not only be experienced individually but also shared with the wider community.
"Sacrifice means devotion, sincerity, and sharing with others. Happiness is not only for ourselves, but for everyone," he stated.
10,586 Animals Registered in Medan

According to the City Welfare Office, a total of 10,586 sacrificial animals were registered for Eid al-Adha 1447 H in Medan. The municipal government itself provided 124 animals, consisting of 105 cattle and 19 goats contributed by civil servants.
Residents contributed 7,091 cattle, 105 buffaloes, 3,170 goats, and 108 sheep. In addition, the mayor and his family donated two cattle for this year's Qurban.
Rico Waas also extended his Eid al-Adha greetings to the people of Medan and expressed hope for greater blessings in the coming year.
