Bakamla RI Tests Weapon Readiness in Live-Fire Exercise off Galang Waters

LIVE-FIRE EXERCISE: Bakamla RI conducts a live-fire exercise in the waters east of Galang Island to ensure the readiness of personnel and weapon systems in supporting maritime security operations.

BATAM | INDATANEWS.COM - The Maritime Security Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (Bakamla RI) conducted a live-fire exercise on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, in the waters east of Galang Island, Batam. The activity was aimed at carrying out a technical warming-up phase for existing weapon systems and equipment, while also ensuring the operational readiness of personnel and the main weapon systems (Alutsista) in supporting maritime security operations.

The exercise was led by Deputy Head of Operations and Training of Bakamla RI, Rear Admiral Bakamla Eko Wahjono, S.E., M.M. The event was also attended by Director of Maritime Operations of Bakamla RI, Rear Admiral Bakamla Lukman Kharish, S.T., M.Han. Meanwhile, Head of the Western Bakamla Zone, First Admiral Bakamla Bambang Trijanto, was represented by the Head of the Operations Division of the Western Bakamla Zone.

Bakamla RI Verifies Weapon System Operational Readiness

The live-fire exercise involved the State Ships (KN) Bintang Laut-401 and KN Belut Laut-406. During the activity, personnel tested various weapon systems, including a 30 mm cannon, a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun (SMB), small arms, and sniper weapons.

All stages of the exercise were conducted in a structured manner with strict compliance with operational procedures and safety regulations. The personnel began by preparing ammunition, checking communication systems, and setting up target objects in the form of floating barrels before carrying out firing activities against the designated targets.

The exercise was not only intended to evaluate personnel capabilities in operating weapon systems but also to ensure that all supporting equipment could function optimally when required during operations in Indonesian territorial waters.

Alutsista Evaluation Strengthens Maritime Operations

Throughout the exercise, all deployed weapon systems, including the 30 mm cannon, 12.7 mm heavy machine gun, small arms, and sniper weapons, operated properly according to the planned procedures. The results demonstrated the operational readiness of Bakamla RI units in carrying out their duties to maintain the security and protection of maritime areas.

Following the completion of the exercise series, Bakamla RI leadership immediately conducted an evaluation to further improve the reliability of the weapon systems. The evaluation became an important part of ensuring both technical readiness and personnel capabilities, enabling rapid and accurate responses during maritime operations.

The live-fire exercise also served as a training platform for personnel to further enhance their skills, discipline, and coordination among crew members when facing various operational situations at sea.

Evaluation Becomes Foundation for Higher Readiness

Overall, the exercise was conducted safely, orderly, and smoothly without any accidents or incidents involving personnel. Throughout the activity, all safety procedures were consistently implemented to ensure the protection of personnel and equipment.

Bakamla RI will use the evaluation results as a foundation for improving technical equipment maintenance and developing continuous training programs. This effort is expected to further enhance the effectiveness of maritime security and protection tasks in Indonesian waters.

Through regular exercises, Bakamla RI continues to strengthen the readiness of its personnel and Alutsista as part of efforts to support Indonesia's national maritime security. (IDNC)
