MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM ~ The North Sumatra Police (Polda Sumut) have intensified engagement with Islamic community organizations through humanistic and collaborative communication strategies.
The initiative aims not only to enforce the law but also to foster harmonious social relations with the public.

Ibnu Hajar, S.E., chairman of the North Sumatra Coordination Council of Young Muslims (BAKOPAM), emphasized that the police's approach now prioritizes partnership over formal interactions.
"From a social communication perspective, Polda Sumut's model is evolving into a true partnership. It's no longer just about formal contacts between authorities and the community, but about social relationships nurtured through dialogue and regular engagement," Ibnu said.
This ongoing interaction strengthens solidarity between the police and
Islamic organizations while promoting shared social interests.

Ibnu highlighted that the police consistently apply
humanistic communication principles.
"In many situations, the police demonstrate respect, actively listen, and exercise authority moderately. Humanistic communication means respecting conversation partners. When officers are receptive and approachable, it reflects genuine humanity," he explained.
Cooperation Secures Social StabilityCollaboration between the police and Islamic organizations plays a key role in maintaining social stability.
"Islamic organizations have extensive social networks and moral influence, while the police ensure public security. Only together can security messages be effectively conveyed and societal stability preserved," Ibnu stated.
This partnership also enhances the police's positive image, as the community evaluates the institution through its proximity to religious leaders and youth.

Consistency and Sincerity as Keys to SuccessIbnu stressed that consistent and sincere communication is crucial.
"If
humanistic communication only occurs during specific events, the public will notice. When practiced regularly and sincerely, trust grows. The ability of officers to understand social and religious structures is equally important," he added.
Challenges such as differing institutional perspectives or rapid information spread via social media require a flexible coordination system that actively involves young people.
Recommendations for Stronger Humanistic CommunicationIbnu recommends expanding youth dialogue platforms, establishing responsive communication systems, and embedding humanistic communication as a permanent culture in the police, rather than implementing it sporadically. These measures aim to strengthen and constructively shape collaboration between the North Sumatra Police and Islamic organizations.
