Barelang Police Arrest Robbery Suspect in Sungai Beduk, Batam

BATAM | INDATANEWS.COM A joint team from the Jatanras Unit of Polresta Barelang and investigators from the Sungai Beduk Police Station has successfully solved a violent robbery case (curas) in Sungai Beduk, Batam. A suspect was arrested without resistance, with several pieces of evidence secured during the operation.

The swift resolution underscores the police's continued commitment to maintaining public order and tackling street crime, which remains a concern among residents. Within days of the report being filed, investigators successfully identified and apprehended the suspect.

Victim Attacked on Way to CelebrationThe incident occurred on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at around 7:00 p.m. local time along Bukit Ayu Lestari Block W Street in Mangsang, Sungai Beduk. The victim, a 52-year-old man identified by the initials EG, was walking to attend a social event when he was attacked.

He was carrying a white bag containing valuables, including a Vivo Y28 smartphone, an iPhone 7 Plus (32GB), and several important documents. The relatively quiet street environment is believed to have been exploited by the perpetrator.

According to the victim, an unidentified man on a motorcycle suddenly approached and forcefully snatched his bag before fleeing the scene. The loss is estimated at approximately IDR 8.7 million, along with essential personal documents.

Rapid Investigation Leads to IdentificationFollowing the report, a joint investigative team led by IPDA Dedy Pasaribu from the Jatanras Unit of Polresta Barelang and IPDA Dipo Patria from the Sungai Beduk Police Station immediately launched an intensive investigation.

Through witness statements and crime scene analysis, authorities narrowed the suspect to a 33-year-old man with the initials PA, who was subsequently placed under surveillance.

Arrest in Mangsang Without ResistanceOn Saturday, June 13, 2026, at around 00:55 a.m., police located the suspect in the Mangsang area of Sungai Beduk and conducted a swift arrest without any resistance.

During the operation, officers also secured key evidence believed to be linked to the crime, including a black Suzuki Satria FU motorcycle, the victim's Vivo Y28 smartphone, clothing worn during the incident, and a black wallet containing identification cards, bank cards, and BPJS documents.

The suspect is currently being held at Sungai Beduk Police Station for further interrogation, including possible involvement in other criminal acts. Investigations remain ongoing, and case files are being prepared for submission to the public prosecutor's office.

Suspect Faces Up to 12 Years in PrisonThe suspect PA (33) is being charged under Article 479 paragraph (2) letter (a) of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) for aggravated robbery, which carries a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison.

Police have reaffirmed their commitment to cracking down on street crime and urged the public to remain vigilant, especially when carrying valuables in public spaces. Residents are encouraged to immediately report suspicious activity via the 24-hour emergency hotline 110. (IDNC)
