MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM – The Head of Class I Medan Correctional Facility, Fonika Affandi, has responded to recent reports circulating on online platforms and social media alleging drug-related activities and other illicit conduct inside the prison. He firmly denied the accusations and emphasized that strict security and supervision protocols are consistently enforced within the facility.
Fonika Affandi stated that the correctional facility regularly conducts comprehensive inspections within prison blocks. According to him, these operations are not merely formal procedures but part of a continuous strategy aimed at early detection and prevention of security disruptions.
"The raids are carried out not only by internal officers but also in coordination with TNI, Polri, the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), and the Regional Office response team," he said on Saturday, June 6, 2026, in Medan.
He explained that this multi-agency collaboration is designed to ensure the prison remains free from drug trafficking and other illegal activities. Every search operation follows strict security protocols and is officially documented.
In addition, strict monitoring is applied to incoming and outgoing goods as well as visitor access to prevent potential smuggling attempts.

Tight Surveillance on High-Risk InmatesThe prison administration has also implemented enhanced monitoring systems for inmates classified as high-risk. These individuals are placed under intensified supervision, including close observation of their daily activities within residential blocks.
Visits from family members, as well as participation in educational and rehabilitation programs, are also closely monitored. The measure aims to detect and prevent any form of rule violation at an early stage.
Regular cell inspections remain a standard component of the facility's overall security framework.
Response to Public Concerns and Transparency EffortsAddressing content circulating on social media, Fonika expressed appreciation for public concern regarding potential irregularities but urged that any allegations be submitted through official channels with verifiable evidence.
"There is zero tolerance for drug abuse or any illegal activities. We operate strictly under government regulations and the directives of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections," he emphasized.
He also noted that so far there have been no official complaints, confirmed victim reports, or coordinated actions with law enforcement agencies related to the allegations circulating online.
Beyond security enforcement, the facility continues to run rehabilitation programs, including religious guidance, mental development support, vocational training, agricultural activities, and other skill-building initiatives.
Fonika concluded by reaffirming that the correctional facility remains open to public oversight. Media and the public are welcome to observe its programs, provided reporting is based on verified facts. (IDNC)
