MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Medan Mayor, Rico Waas, has confirmed that the city administration will take firm action against night entertainment venues involved in drug-related activities or operating without proper permits. The statement came after the sealing of Phantom KTV on Jalan H. Adam Malik.
Rico Waas emphasized that the move reflects the city government's commitment to maintaining public order and security. He noted that this was not an isolated incident, as authorities continue to intensify monitoring of entertainment venues in coordination with local police.
"It is deeply unfortunate. This is the second time we have jointly visited a nightclub that was found to be a site for drug distribution. Such incidents must not happen in Medan," he said.
He also reiterated that while the city supports economic growth, all business operators are required to comply with licensing regulations and tax obligations.
Drug Findings and Licensing Breaches at Phantom KTV
According to authorities, inspections at Phantom KTV revealed multiple violations. The establishment reportedly lacked valid restaurant and bar licenses and had not fulfilled proper tax registration requirements.
Officials also suspect that the venue was linked to illegal drug distribution activities. The Medan city government is working closely with regional leadership coordination forums to strengthen efforts against narcotics-related crimes.
"We support economic development, but all permits must be in order. Above all, no business should become a hub for drug activity," Rico Waas added.
Temporary Closure and Ongoing Investigation
The Medan city administration has ordered the immediate closure of Phantom KTV until all licensing and tax obligations are fully met. A formal closure notice has been posted at the site.
The enforcement action was also attended by representatives of Military District Command 0201, Letkol Arm Delli Yudha Adi Nurcahyo.
Medan Police Chief Jean Calvijn Simanjuntak stated that the case was uncovered on May 23, 2026. Two suspects have been arrested, including an employee allegedly involved in distributing ecstasy within Phantom KTV, and a drug supplier.
Six additional individuals tested positive for narcotics and have been placed under rehabilitation. Three were employees of the venue, while the others were detained during separate operations.
"Based on our findings, there are indications that management was aware of the drug activities. Investigations are still ongoing," Simanjuntak said.
Customs authorities in Belawan have also identified potential violations involving alcohol distribution, including suspected illegal sales and counterfeit tax seals, which are currently under further investigation. (IDNC)
