Two Teenagers Arrested After Motorcycle Theft in Tapanuli Tengah

ARRESTED TWO TEENAGERS FOR MOTORCYCLE THEFT: Two teenage suspects are detained by police after being accused of stealing a resident’s Yamaha R15 motorcycle in Tapanuli Tengah.

TAPANULI TENGAH | INDATANEWS.COM The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Tapanuli Tengah Police (Polres Tapanuli Tengah) has taken over the investigation into a motorcycle theft case involving two juvenile suspects. The case was initially handled by the Sibabangun Police Station before being escalated to the criminal unit for further investigation.

The suspects, identified by the initials AL (17) from Pinangsori District and DJH alias D (17) from Lumut District, Tapanuli Tengah Regency, are both classified as children in conflict with the law.

Motorcycle Stolen While Victim Was Hunting

The victim, Sudirman Adi Arto Panggabean (26), had parked his blue Yamaha R15 motorcycle, license plate BB 5285 MZ, at the roadside around 12:00 p.m. while he went hunting in the surrounding area. When he returned approximately three and a half hours later, the motorcycle had disappeared, with losses estimated at around IDR 35 million.

The case was officially reported to the Sibabangun Police Station in the early hours of May 16, 2026.

Residents Detain the Suspects

The situation escalated when residents from Lumut and Hutabalang districts apprehended the two suspects on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at around 4:30 p.m. in the Aek Lobu area of Hutabalang.

"After receiving information from the victim regarding the suspects' detention by local residents, our officers immediately responded to secure both individuals to prevent possible vigilante actions and to ensure the evidence was preserved," said AKP Dian Agustian Perdana on Monday, May 18, 2026.

Evidence Secured, Case Handed to Juvenile Unit

Police officers recovered a blue Yamaha R15 motorcycle with plate number BB 5285 MZ, a blue lighter, as well as the original vehicle registration document (STNK) and the ignition key.

The suspects, along with the evidence, were initially taken to Sibabangun Police Station before being transferred to the Tapanuli Tengah Criminal Investigation Unit.

Because both suspects are minors, the case will be handled by the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) under the provisions of Article 477 paragraph 1 letters f and g of the Indonesian Criminal Code, as well as Law No. 11 of 2012 on the Juvenile Justice System. (IDNC)
