BATAM | INDATANEWS.COM – A quick response by a Bhabinkamtibmas officer from Tiban Baru Village, working alongside local residents, led to the arrest of a suspected cable thief in the Tiban Koperasi area, Tiban Baru Village, Sekupang District, Batam City, on Wednesday (May 13, 2026) at around 11:00 a.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
The incident began at approximately 10:45 a.m. when two suspected perpetrators entered an unoccupied house in
Tiban Koperasi. The pair allegedly stole electrical installation cables from the property. However, their actions did not go unnoticed as nearby residents became suspicious and began monitoring the situation.
Once the suspects realized they had been spotted, they immediately attempted to flee the scene.

Rapid Response from Police and ResidentsTheir escape did not last long. Together with the Bhabinkamtibmas officer from the Sekupang Police Sector, residents quickly pursued the suspects. One of the perpetrators was successfully apprehended at the scene, while the second managed to escape and remains at large.

Sekupang Police Station for further questioning. Authorities continue to investigate the case.
Sekupang Police Chief, Kompol Hippal Tua Sirait, praised the swift action of residents and their cooperation with law enforcement, which helped maintain public order.
"We urge residents to remain vigilant against potential crimes in their surroundings and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the police," Kompol Hippal Tua Sirait said.
