BATAM | INDATANEWS.COM - A Malaysian correctional delegation has visited Batam Prison to strengthen bilateral cooperation and exchange best practices in the field of corrections and rehabilitation.
The visit, held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, brought together officials from the Malaysian Prison Department (Jabatan Penjara Malaysia) and several Indonesian correctional technical implementation units (UPT) in Batam. The program aimed to deepen professional collaboration and share knowledge on inmate management, security systems, and rehabilitation initiatives.
Strengthening Bilateral Correctional Cooperation

The focus included inmate care, institutional security, and rehabilitation programs designed to support reintegration into society.
The exchange also served as a platform for both countries to discuss best practices and strengthen institutional ties in the correctional sector.

Head of
Batam Prison, Yosafat Rizanto, presented a comprehensive overview of inmate development programs, emphasizing personal growth and self-reliance training.
"We are very pleased with the visit from the Malaysian Prison Department. Hopefully, this meeting will further strengthen the relationship between our two countries," said Yosafat Rizanto.

Focus on Rehabilitation, Security, and Skills DevelopmentYosafat Rizanto also detailed various programs covering inmate rehabilitation, security management, healthcare services, and vocational training aimed at improving prisoners' skills.
Following the presentation, the Malaysian delegation toured the facilities and engaged directly with correctional officers to understand operational procedures and daily practices.
Malaysian delegation representative Vinodh Elamkovam expressed hope that the insights gained during the visit could be applied within Malaysia's correctional system in the future.
The visit concluded in a warm and cooperative atmosphere, underscoring both nations' commitment to strengthening collaboration in corrections, particularly in enhancing rehabilitation and inmate care standards.
