BATAM | INDATANEWS.COM – The Traffic Unit of the Barelang Police (Polresta Barelang) carried out a nighttime patrol and law enforcement operation targeting articulated trucks operating without functional brake lights within its jurisdiction in Batam. The initiative aims to strengthen public safety, order, and traffic discipline while preventing potential road accidents.
The operation was led by IPDA Tino Desmawanto, Head of the Turjagwali Unit of the Barelang Traffic Police, alongside Aipda Mashuri, Deputy Head of Sub-unit 2 Turjagwali. They were supported by eight traffic personnel conducting mobile patrols across major and high-traffic routes frequently used by heavy vehicles at night.
Vehicle Inspections Reveal Safety Violations

Several articulated vehicles were found to be non-compliant with technical safety standards, particularly due to missing or non-functional brake lights, which are mandatory under traffic regulations.

Enforcement with a Humanistic Approach

In addition to issuing warnings, officers provided safety briefings and instructed drivers to immediately repair their brake light systems to improve nighttime
road safety and visibility.
A total of six trucks were issued warnings for operating without functional brake lights. In addition, one driving license and one vehicle registration document were temporarily confiscated as evidence.
Police Urge Transport Operators to Prioritize Road SafetyThe Barelang Traffic Police emphasized that these night patrols are part of ongoing efforts to ensure safety, order, and smooth traffic flow in Batam. Police presence is also intended to enhance public confidence in road safety enforcement.

All commercial and heavy vehicle drivers are urged to ensure their vehicles are in roadworthy condition before operating. The public is also encouraged to report traffic violations or safety hazards via the 24-hour toll-free police hotline 110.
