BATAM | INDATANEWS.COM – The Sungai Beduk Police Criminal Investigation Unit has successfully resolved a case of aggravated assault involving a knife attack in Tanjung Piayu. Acting swiftly, the investigative team led by the unit chief arrested a suspect and secured key evidence on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, for further legal proceedings.
The incident took place on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at around 8:30 p.m. WIB on the porch of a residence in Kavling Sei Daun Raya, Tanjung Piayu, Sungai Beduk District, Batam City. The individuals involved included the victim S (54), complainant F (33), the alleged perpetrator AM (59), and witness Sy (29).
Authorities reported that the incident began as a heated argument before quickly escalating into violence. The complainant, alerted by the commotion, arrived at the scene where a crowd had gathered. The victim's wife informed him that AM had attacked S using a sharp weapon.
The victim suffered serious injuries to the back, waist, shoulder, and fingers.

Child Injured During the Incident
In the course of the attack, the victim's child, Z, was also injured. The child sustained wounds to the right leg below the knee. Local residents promptly evacuated both victims to RS Embun Fatimah Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Suspect Arrested Without Resistance
Acting on public information, the
Sungai Beduk Police team led by Iptu Shelin Angelina, managed to locate and arrest the suspect at a hiding place in Kavling Lama Sungai Daun without resistance.
During initial questioning, AM reportedly confessed to the attack. Officers also seized several pieces of evidence, including a machete, a black Yamaha Vega motorcycle, and a yellow Sriwijaya FC T-shirt.
Sungai Beduk Police Chief Iptu Alex Yasral emphasized that authorities will take firm action against all forms of violence that disrupt public order. He also urged the public to report suspicious activities through the 24-hour emergency hotline 110.
The suspect is currently being held at the Sungai Beduk Police Station and is being charged under Article 466 paragraph (2) of Indonesia's Criminal Code (Law No. 1 of 2023), facing a potential sentence of up to five years in prison. (IDNC)
