JAMBI | INDATANEWS.COM – A new pattern of fraud cases has recently emerged in Jambi City, where perpetrators allegedly use fake receipts and suspected hypnosis-like tactics to deceive small shop owners and staff.
Lia, a local resident, said a family member became a victim of the scam on Wednesday evening, April 29, 2026, at a shop in East Jambi (Jambi Timur).
"This time, my relative was deceived at his store in Jambi Timur on Wednesday evening. The suspect showed no fear, even though the location is only about 100 meters from the police station," she said on Thursday, April 30, 2026.

The man was described as wearing a black jacket and a black helmet, appearing familiar with surveillance camera blind spots.
The perpetrator reportedly presented a fake receipt, claiming he was collecting a payment. He also convinced store staff that he had already coordinated with the shop owner, even simulating a phone call to strengthen his story.
"The way he spoke was so convincing, it was as if the cashier was under hypnosis. The money was handed over unconsciously. Only after he left did the staff realize what had happened," Lia explained.

"The situation in Jambi is worrying. These criminals are targeting small shops, especially those open 24 hours. I hope the authorities can quickly apprehend the perpetrators," she said.
