PIDIE | INDATANEWS.COM ~ A river-crossing attempt turned into a tragedy on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at around 11:30 a.m. WIB, in Cot Kuala, Mane District, Pidie Regency, Aceh. Three residents were swept away by a strong current while attempting to cross a mountainous river.
According to
Pidie Police Chief AKBP Jaka Mulyana, the group was heading toward Dusun Ireu, Cot Kuala, in the Mane/Tangse highland area when the incident occurred at a common crossing point.
Sudden Current Change Triggers Emergency
Read Also: Aceh Governor Spearheads JKA Data Validation Drive Before the crossing, a local resident, Sayet Nazaruddin (40), assisted the group by transporting their belongings across the river safely. However, shortly after completing the task, the river's current suddenly intensified, creating a dangerous situation within moments.
The sudden surge pulled one of the individuals into the river, prompting an immediate emergency response from those nearby.

Another victim, Armia (28) from Gampong Blang Pandak, was later found along the riverbank in stable condition. He was treated at the Tangse Community Health Center before being transferred to Dusun Alue Lhok, Gampong Krueng Meuriam for further recovery.
However, Zainunis (29), also from Gampong Krueng Meuriam, remains missing and has not yet been located.

Search Operation Intensifies Along River

AKBP Jaka Mulyana emphasized that rescue operations are ongoing and urged the public to exercise extreme caution during high water levels and strong currents.
"The search efforts for the
missing person are continuing," he stated.
