LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Chief of Police of Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency, AKBP Rosef Efendi, has called on residents of Simatahari Village in Kotapinang District to strengthen cooperation with the police, prevent drug trafficking, reduce crime and help maintain security in their neighbourhood.
AKBP Rosef made the appeal on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, during a face-to-face meeting with residents at the
Simatahari Village Administration Office. The meeting provided an opportunity for the police and local community to improve communication, discuss security concerns and strengthen collective awareness of the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking.
The police chief emphasised that maintaining public safety and order was not solely the responsibility of the police. Every section of society had an important role to play in preventing security disturbances, from individual families to the wider village community.
Joint Efforts to Combat Drugs and Crime
During the dialogue, Rosef warned residents against underestimating the dangers of drugs. Drug abuse and trafficking could jeopardise the future of younger generations, weaken family ties and trigger social problems with far-reaching consequences for the community.
He urged residents to be more vigilant about suspicious activities that might be linked to drug abuse or trafficking. According to Rosef, greater public awareness of developments in their neighbourhoods could help the police identify potential security risks at an early stage.
AKBP Rosef also encouraged residents to provide information to the police if they noticed signs of criminal activity. However, he stressed that they should always prioritise their own safety and leave investigations and the handling of cases to the relevant authorities rather than taking the law into their own hands.
"Maintaining
public safety and order is our shared responsibility.
We urge all residents of Simatahari Village to continue working closely with the police, maintain security in their neighbourhoods and work together to combat drugs in order to protect our families and the future of younger generations," AKBP Rosef said.
AKBP Rosef expressed hope that residents would make a commitment to security an integral part of their daily lives. Through sustained cooperation, they could help create an environment in which drug trafficking and other forms of crime had no place.

110 Emergency Hotline Makes Reporting Crime Easier
To make it easier for residents to access police assistance, Rosef reminded them to contact the police call centre on 110 or visit their nearest police station if they experienced or witnessed criminal activity.
He explained that open and prompt communication between the public and the police was essential to identifying potential security risks. Information provided at an early stage could help officers assess appropriate preventive measures and determine the next steps according to the circumstances on the ground.
Residents should also recognise the importance of reporting suspected offences through the designated channels. This would allow the police to follow up on information while reducing the risks that could arise if residents confronted suspected offenders themselves.
In addition to encouraging greater vigilance, the use of official reporting channels could strengthen relations between the police and the public. Through mutual communication, residents would have the opportunity to raise their concerns, while the police could offer advice on appropriate measures to improve security in their neighbourhoods.
Through this approach, Rosef encouraged the people of Simatahari to play an active role in maintaining a safe and stable public environment.
