LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Chief of Labuhanbatu Selatan Police, AKBP Rosef Efendi, S.I.K., M.H., CPHR, took to the streets on Monday, 26 October 2026, to direct traffic and distribute free helmets to motorcyclists. The initiative took place at the Simpang Kampung Raja junction on the Trans-Sumatra Highway (Jalinsum), in Kotapinang District, as part of efforts to raise public awareness of road safety.
With traffic building up during the morning rush, Rosef joined several officers in managing the flow of vehicles, helping to ease congestion and keep traffic moving. Officers also used the opportunity to engage directly with road users and remind them of the importance of safe driving practices.
The initiative highlighted the importance of leading by example, alongside public awareness and responsible behaviour, in preventing road accidents. Police presence on busy roads also provides an opportunity to encourage greater discipline and consideration for other road users.
Rosef was accompanied by Deputy Chief of
Labuhanbatu Selatan Police KOMPOL Moch. Guntur Pryantoko, S.H., M.H.; Kotapinang Police Chief AKP Sandira Limbong, S.H.; traffic police officers; and other members of the
Labuhanbatu Selatan Police force.
Free Helmets Promote Personal Safety
The distribution of free helmets reflected the police force's commitment to protecting motorcyclists. Beyond providing protective equipment, officers reminded the public that personal safety must remain a priority whenever they travel.
Helmets play a vital role in reducing the risk of head injuries in road accidents. Motorcyclists should ensure that their helmets meet Indonesia's National Standard (SNI), fit properly and have their chin straps securely fastened to provide effective protection.
Rosef stressed that road safety was a shared responsibility and urged all road users to comply with traffic regulations rather than prioritise speed or shorter journey times.
"Road safety must be a shared concern for all of us. We urge the public to obey traffic rules at all times, wear helmets that meet the SNI standard when riding motorcycles, and put safety before speed.
"Do not let carelessness on the road cause accidents that harm us and our families," he warned.
Rosef added that police officers' presence among the public served a purpose beyond directing vehicles and maintaining traffic flow. Direct engagement with residents also helped build trust and encourage more responsible behaviour on the road.

Road Discipline Is Key to Preventing Accidents
Keeping public roads safe requires the cooperation of everyone who uses them. Obeying road signs, wearing helmets, maintaining appropriate speeds and respecting the rights of other road users are essential measures to reduce the risk of accidents.
Drivers should also maintain a safe following distance, remain alert to their surroundings and avoid behaviour that could endanger themselves or others. Disregarding traffic regulations increases the likelihood of collisions, particularly on busy roads where traffic volumes and public mobility are high.
Road safety education must be ongoing rather than limited to occasions when officers detect violations or accidents have already occurred. Police patrols at busy junctions offer a practical way to reinforce safety messages and encourage people to make responsible road use part of their daily routines.
Through the initiative at Simpang Kampung Raja, Labuhanbatu Selatan Police hopes to strengthen traffic discipline among local residents. Motorcyclists are encouraged to wear helmets correctly, obey road signs and maintain sufficient safety distances. The police reiterated that arriving sooner must never take precedence over protecting one's own life and the lives of others.

Police Assistance Available Through Emergency Number 110
Rosef also reminded residents that they could contact the police call centre on 110 whenever they needed assistance or wished to report disturbances affecting public security and order, known locally as Kamtibmas.
The service provides a direct channel for reporting incidents that may require police attention or intervention. Residents are encouraged to provide clear and accurate information so that officers can assess each report and respond appropriately.
"If you need police assistance or witness a disturbance affecting public security and order, please contact the police call centre on 110. Explain the situation as clearly and accurately as possible so that officers can take appropriate action. We urge everyone to work together to maintain safety, order and security in their communities," he said.
The traffic management operation and free helmet distribution form part of Labuhanbatu Selatan Police's wider efforts to deliver a more approachable, responsive and community-focused service. Direct engagement also allows officers to hear residents' concerns and better understand the challenges they face in maintaining road safety.
The message is simple but concerns the most valuable thing on any journey: human life. Following traffic regulations is not merely a legal obligation; it is also a responsibility to oneself, one's family and every other road user.
Labuhanbatu Selatan Police reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public security and order through prompt, measured and consistent action, while upholding its Presisi policing principles of precision, professionalism and public service. (IDNC)
