JAMBI | INDATANEWS.COM - Jambi Provincial Police and their subordinate units detained 213 people during Operation Sarang Narkoba (Drug Den) conducted from 9 to 26 October 2026. The operation covered 301 locations across the province and resulted in the seizure of approximately 2.7 kilogrammes of methamphetamine, 2,567 ecstasy tablets, cannabis, etomidate and other items of evidence.
The 18-day operation involved thousands of personnel as part of efforts to curb illegal drug trafficking and protect the public from the dangers of drug abuse. Jambi Provincial Police carried out the operation in response to a directive from the President to the National Police Chief, as well as instructions from
Jambi Police Chief Inspector General Widodo.
Of the 213 people detained, investigators classified 140 as suspected drug users. The remaining 73 were suspected of involvement in illegal drug trafficking, comprising 22 alleged couriers, 46 alleged drug dealers and five alleged drug kingpins.
Rehabilitation procedures were initiated for the 140 suspected drug users, while criminal proceedings were pursued against the other 73 individuals. Further action in each case will depend on the investigation findings, the results of the relevant assessments and the applicable laws and regulations.
Thousands of Officers Deploy Across 301 Locations
Jambi Provincial Police deployed a total of 4,248 personnel during the 18-day operation. Of these, 4,112 were police officers, while another 136 personnel came from external institutions.
The police contingent included officers from the narcotics investigation unit, security and intelligence services, traffic police, the police public order unit, the Mobile Brigade Corps, the professional standards and internal security division, medical and health services, logistics, and police stations across Jambi's cities and regencies.
External personnel came from institutions including the National Narcotics Agency, the Indonesian Army Military Police, the Customs and Excise Directorate, municipal public order authorities and other relevant agencies.
The involvement of multiple institutions was intended to strengthen inter-agency cooperation in tackling illegal drug trafficking. Joint teams inspected 301 locations within the jurisdictions of police stations and municipal police departments across Jambi Province.
During the operation, officers seized 2,699.955 grammes of methamphetamine, equivalent to approximately 2.7 kilogrammes, 7.84 grammes of cannabis, 2,567 ecstasy tablets and 62 millilitres of etomidate, along with other items of evidence.
The seizures illustrate the scale of the operation, which targeted both drug abuse and networks involved in illegal drug distribution. However, the published operational data did not specify which seized items were linked to individual suspects.

Drug Users Face Rehabilitation, While Trafficking Suspects Face Prosecution
Jambi Police Chief Inspector General Widodo reaffirmed the force's commitment to combating illegal drug trafficking and protecting the public from the dangers of drug abuse. His message was conveyed by Jambi Provincial Police public relations chief Police Commissioner Erlan Munaji.
"Jambi Police and all subordinate units are committed to continuing a firm, targeted and sustained crackdown on illegal drug trafficking. We will continue Operation Sarang Narkoba on a large scale and with full force to curb drug abuse and restrict the activities of drug trafficking networks in Jambi Province," Erlan said, conveying the police chief's statement.
According to Erlan, the campaign against drugs extends beyond action against drug kingpins, dealers, couriers and distribution networks. The police also focus on support and rehabilitation for drug users who meet the applicable legal requirements.
"Our commitment is to rehabilitate users who meet the necessary criteria while taking action against drug kingpins and their entire networks. Decisions on how users are dealt with will be based on investigation findings and appropriate assessments in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations. Drug kingpins, dealers, couriers and other individuals whose involvement in criminal offences is established must face the legal consequences," he stressed.
This approach combines rehabilitation and law enforcement as complementary measures. Drug users who qualify following examination and assessment may undergo rehabilitation, while individuals suspected of involvement in trafficking-related offences may face criminal proceedings in accordance with the law and the evidence gathered.
The distinction is intended to ensure that the rehabilitation needs of drug users are considered separately from the prosecution of those involved in illegal drug distribution. Through this approach, Jambi Police aim to dismantle trafficking networks while reducing the wider social harm caused by drug abuse.

Public Urged to Report Suspected Drug Activities
Erlan stressed that tackling drug-related crime requires public participation and cannot be left solely to law enforcement agencies. Families, community and religious leaders, educational institutions and local governments all have important roles in preventing drug abuse and identifying suspicious activities at an early stage.
"We call on the entire community to work together to prevent and combat drug abuse and trafficking. Do not allow illegal drug networks to spread in our neighbourhoods. If you become aware of activities that may be linked to drug abuse or illegal drug trafficking, please report them to the police immediately," he said.
Erlan also urged members of the public not to be afraid to report suspected drug offences. They can contact the police through the free emergency hotline, 110, to provide information to the authorities.
"Public participation is crucial in helping the police uncover drug trafficking and dismantle criminal networks. Through close cooperation between the police and the public, we hope to further restrict the activities of drug kingpins and protect the younger generation from the dangers of drugs," he added.
Jambi Police hope that cooperation between law enforcement agencies, the government, families and the wider community will further restrict the activities of drug trafficking networks across the province. The public is also urged not to ignore possible signs of drug abuse or illegal drug distribution in their surroundings.
Operation Sarang Narkoba forms part of longer-term efforts to curb illegal drug trafficking. Alongside firm law enforcement, rehabilitation for eligible drug users and timely reports from the public remain important elements in protecting young people from the dangers of drugs. (IDNC)
