LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM ~ The Keluarga Alumni Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam (KAHMI Labuhanbatu Selatan) has urged law enforcement authorities to accelerate and strengthen efforts against drug trafficking following a social tragedy in Panipahan, located in Kecamatan Pasir Limau Kapas, Rokan Hilir. The incident has sparked widespread public outrage across Indonesia and renewed scrutiny of law enforcement effectiveness.
The organization warned that failure to act decisively could deepen public distrust in state institutions and fuel social instability in vulnerable regions.
Panipahan Tragedy Raises Law Enforcement Concerns
KAHMI Labusel's Head of Law and Human Rights, Dayu Putra, said the events in
Panipahan reflect years of tolerance toward illegal activities, particularly drug trafficking.
He stressed that slow law enforcement response has become a critical concern that risks undermining public confidence.
"The incident in
Panipahan demonstrates one thing: when authorities do not enforce the law quickly and decisively, the public can lose trust and act out of control," Dayu Putra said.
Drugs and Illegal Trade Threaten Social Stability
According to KAHMI, drug-related crimes are not only a threat to individuals but also weaken the social and economic fabric of communities. The organization also highlighted interconnected illegal practices, including the misuse of subsidized diesel fuel and the circulation of untaxed cigarettes.
These activities, it said, form a broader network of illicit economies that intensify social tensions in the region.
"This is not just a violation; it's a systemic threat. If we allow drugs to continue, we are preparing for a slow destruction," Dayu Putra added.
Panipahan as a Turning Point for Enforcement
KAHMI Labusel called for uncompromising law enforcement against drug syndicates, including dismantling networks down to their roots. The organization also demanded greater transparency in investigations, faster responses to public reports, and stronger community-based prevention measures.
It further criticized the tendency of authorities to focus on users rather than targeting major actors behind drug distribution networks. KAHMI also warned of potential social unrest if enforcement gaps continue.
"We do not condone extrajudicial actions. But we also cannot turn a blind eye to the fact that tolerating drugs is a major trigger for social explosions," Dayu Putra stated.
The group described the Panipahan tragedy as a critical turning point for improving law enforcement performance in Labuhanbatu Selatan, urging authorities to act faster than criminal networks to maintain public trust.
"Panipahan is a costly lesson. If drugs and illegal practices continue to be allowed, similar incidents could recur. South Labuhanbatu must be a model for law enforcement, not a region awaiting regret," he added.
KAHMI Labusel also confirmed it will continue to act as a public oversight body in accordance with constitutional principles to ensure more effective and community-oriented law enforcement. (IDNC)
