JAMBI | INDATANEWS.COM - A violent incident allegedly triggered by jealousy occurred on Jalan MPU Sendok, RT 14, in Solok Sipin, Danau Sipin District, Jambi City. A 37-year-old woman identified by the initials YA attacked two people with a concealed bladed weapon. The weapon was a knife disguised as a silver-colored pen.

The attack left two women injured. One of the victims sustained a stab wound to her left arm, while the other suffered injuries to the fingers of her left hand.

The Head of the Telanaipura Police Station under the Jambi City Police, AKP Amran, SH, MH, said the assault took place on Wednesday night, September 30, 2026, at approximately 9:20 p.m. local time.

According to AKP Amran, the incident began when the suspect visited the rented house of one of the eventual victims. YA's arrival subsequently led to an argument with a 26-year-old woman identified by the initials NRP.

The conflict was allegedly triggered by jealousy. YA had reportedly learned that NRP was involved in a romantic relationship with a man whom she also knew.

The situation continued to escalate as the two women became involved in a heated verbal confrontation. Another woman, identified by the initial S (46), who was at the scene at the time, attempted to mediate the dispute. However, her intervention was followed by an escalation into physical violence.

Argument Escalates Into Knife Attack

In an agitated state, YA pulled out a concealed bladed weapon that she had brought with her. The object was a silver-colored, pen-shaped device that had been modified to contain a flat blade with a sharp, pointed edge.

The suspect then used the weapon to attack both women. S, who had attempted to break up the argument, sustained a stab wound to her left arm. Meanwhile, NRP suffered injuries to the fingers of her left hand.

Both women sustained injuries and required further medical treatment. Following the incident, they filed a police report at the Telanaipura Police Station over the assault.

Acting on the report, police officers went to the scene to document the incident and take the necessary action.

Police Arrest Suspect at the Scene

The Head of the Telanaipura Police Station, AKP Amran, explained that after receiving a report from members of the public about a violent altercation, the station's response team immediately headed to the location.

The team, led by the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit (Kanit Reskrim), searched the surrounding area. Officers subsequently located and arrested YA, who was still at the scene when they arrived.

The arrest was carried out without resistance. Officers then took the 37-year-old woman to the Telanaipura Police Station for questioning and further legal proceedings.

During the initial interrogation, police obtained the suspect's statement regarding the attack on the two women. YA also admitted that jealousy had prompted her actions.

"We managed to arrest the suspect at the scene. During questioning, she admitted to committing the act. The motive was jealousy," said the Head of the Telanaipura Police Station.

As part of the investigation, officers also seized an object suspected of having been used in the attack. The item was a silver-colored pen that had been modified to conceal a knife blade inside.

The unusual design of the weapon, which resembles an ordinary writing instrument, has become an important piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation. Police secured the object for further examination and evidentiary purposes.

Suspect Faces Assault Charges

Following the initial questioning, police formally identified YA as the suspect in the alleged attack on the two women.

The woman is currently being held at the Telanaipura Police Station while investigators continue their work. She will remain in custody pending further investigative procedures. Police are also working to complete the case files in accordance with applicable legal requirements.

YA is suspected of violating Article 466 of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP), which governs the offense of assault.

The Head of the Telanaipura Police Station, AKP Amran, urged members of the public not to allow personal disputes to escalate into acts of violence. He emphasized that disagreements should be resolved through communication and peaceful means without causing harm to others.

He also called on the public not to take the law into their own hands when dealing with conflicts. Instead, residents were encouraged to contact the police and report problems that could potentially threaten public safety and order.

"Do not take the law into your own hands or resolve problems through violence. If you encounter difficulties, report them immediately to your local

Bhabinkamtibmas officer or the nearest police station," AKP Amran said.

Police hope the public will increasingly prioritize calm and peaceful approaches to resolving disputes and avoid emotional reactions that could lead to criminal offenses. The incident in Solok Sipin serves as a reminder that personal relationship problems must also be resolved without resorting to violence. (IDNC)
