LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Residents have been urged to remain vigilant against potential disturbances to public security and order. The message was delivered by the Kotapinang Police during house-to-house visits to residents of Dusun 4, Nortmark Village, Kotapinang Subdistrict, Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency, on Monday, September 14, 2026, as part of the Door-to-Door System (DDS).
The activity was not merely intended to facilitate personal interaction between police officers and residents. AIPTU R.M. Sihombing, the
Bhabinkamtibmas assigned to community affairs by the Kotapinang Police, used the visits to educate residents while warning them about various issues that could threaten security in their neighborhood.
Among the issues highlighted during the activity were drugs, online gambling, the theft of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) from oil palm plantations, land clearing by burning, alleged misuse of subsidized fuel (BBM), and violations of traffic regulations.
Police urged residents not to remain passive if they encounter suspicious activities. Residents were also encouraged to pay closer attention to unfamiliar people and unusual activities in their surroundings.
The public was encouraged to develop a shared sense of responsibility and to remind one another to remain vigilant. Families were also advised to exercise caution when receiving visitors, particularly individuals who ask for assistance or seek information under various pretexts.
Online Gambling Threatens Family Stability
Technological developments mean that potential threats no longer come exclusively from the immediate surroundings but can also enter people's daily lives through digital devices. Online gambling is among the dangers specifically highlighted by police because it can affect the economic well-being of families as well as the future of younger generations.
Aiptu R.M. Sihombing reminded residents not to be tempted to try or participate in
online gambling. According to him, the community must work together to ensure that residential areas do not become places where gambling activities can spread.
"Do not allow online gambling to destroy family life. Let us remind one another and work together to keep our surroundings free from all forms of gambling."
The message also serves as a reminder that gambling activities conducted through mobile phones should not be underestimated. Easy access, along with various advertising and promotional methods used to spread
online gambling, requires greater vigilance, particularly within families.
In addition to online gambling, police also focused on security in the oil palm sector. Residents were urged not to steal fresh fruit bunches (FFB) or loose palm fruits, as such actions may carry legal consequences.
Police also reminded agricultural produce collection point operators not to accept palm fruits whose origins cannot be clearly verified. Such caution is important to prevent the development of a buyer network for produce allegedly obtained through criminal activity.
Responsibility for security in oil palm plantations therefore does not rest solely with landowners and law enforcement agencies. Residents, as well as individuals and businesses involved in receiving or collecting agricultural produce, also play an important role in preventing crime.

Drugs and Land Burning Remain in Focus
The drug problem was also one of the key issues addressed by the
Bhabinkamtibmas with residents of
Nortmark Village. Police urged residents not to turn a blind eye if they become aware of suspected drug abuse or drug trafficking in their surroundings.
Residents can provide relevant information to the police so authorities can take early action against potential security threats. Public participation is particularly important because residents are directly familiar with the daily conditions in their respective neighborhoods.
Police also warned residents about the alleged misuse of subsidized fuel (BBM). The public was urged not to engage in activities that violate applicable regulations and to immediately notify the relevant authorities if there are indications of possible misuse.
The prohibition against land clearing by burning was also reiterated. Residents were urged not to clear or prepare land by burning it, as such practices can have negative environmental impacts and may result in legal consequences.
In connection with the ongoing "Operasi Zebra" traffic safety operation, the Kotapinang Police also reminded residents to improve their compliance with traffic regulations. Motorcycle riders were urged to ensure that their vehicles are properly equipped and legally registered in accordance with applicable regulations.
The use of an SNI-certified helmet, the presence of rear-view mirrors, a valid license plate, and vehicle registration documents (STNK) are among the requirements that road users must pay attention to. Police also urged residents to obey traffic signs and regulations while driving.
According to police, obeying traffic regulations is not merely about avoiding sanctions. Disciplined behavior on the road is an important contribution to protecting one's own safety and that of other road users.

At the conclusion of the activity, police once again called on residents to promptly report information concerning public security and order. Residents were urged not to allow problems to escalate before informing the relevant authorities.
The public can use the police emergency number 110 to request assistance or provide information to law enforcement.
Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Chief AKBP Rosef Efendi, S.I.K., S.H., CPHR., through Kotapinang Police Chief AKP Maruli Tua Siregar, S.H., M.H., said that DDS activities and visits to residents are part of the police strategy to strengthen communication and relations with the community.
"Through good communication and personal interaction, various potential disturbances to
public security and order can be identified early and addressed together. We invite residents to become partners of the police in maintaining a safe and stable environment," AKP Maruli Tua Siregar said.
According to him, direct communication with residents enables police to obtain information about the security situation at the local level. The cooperation is expected to help prevent various potential disturbances before they develop into larger problems.
