TAJUNGPINANG | INDATANEWS.COM ~ A search and rescue (SAR) team from the Tanjungpinang Search and Rescue Office (KPP) evacuated the body of a KMP Sembilang passenger from the waters near Pulau Lobam on Sunday, April 5, 2026. The 40-year-old passenger, Jeffry Setiawan from Kedoya Utara, West Jakarta, had suffered from severe breathing difficulties and was declared dead at sea before he could be transported to Batam for medical treatment.
Jeffry Setiawan began experiencing severe shortness of breath at 03:00 WIB while the
KMP Sembilang was en route from Kuala Tungkal to
Batam. The crew administered oxygen, but his condition continued to deteriorate, and he lost consciousness at 05:00 WIB. Hendri, an officer from the Class III Kijang Port Authority, reported the medical emergency to the SAR team at 05:55 WIB. In response, KPP Tanjungpinang deployed six rescuers using a Rigid Buoyancy Boat (RBB), approximately 11.3 nautical miles from the RBB Dompak Pier.

The SAR team reached
KMP Sembilang at 06:50 WIB. Initial examinations indicated cardiac and respiratory arrest. The victim was transferred to the RBB and transported for medical care to Telaga Punggur Pier in
Batam. Upon arrival at 08:05 WIB, port doctors confirmed the death of Jeffry Setiawan.
His body was then taken to Bhayangkara Hospital, Polda Kepri. After completing the evacuation, the joint SAR team conducted a debriefing at 08:25 WIB, acknowledging all participants for their cooperation in the operation. (IDNC)
