ACEH TENGAH | INDATANEWS.COM - The Forensic Laboratory team of the North Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumatera Utara) strengthened the capabilities of investigators from the Aceh Tengah, Bener Meriah, and Bireuen police districts in handling crime scenes and evidence. The training was held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the Aceh Tengah Police headquarters auditorium.
The initiative is part of efforts to enhance investigators' professionalism in handling criminal cases. This is particularly important during the initial stage of an investigation, when officers must secure the crime scene, identify and collect evidence, and ensure that all findings are preserved in their original condition and maintain their evidentiary value.
The Polda Sumatera Utara Forensic Laboratory team provided investigators with technical knowledge on the proper handling of crime scenes and evidence. The event was led by Deputy Head of the Polda Sumut Forensic Laboratory, AKBP apt. Debora M. Hutagaol, S.Si., M.Farm.
The Deputy Chief of the Aceh Tengah Police, Kompol Samsir, S.H., opened the event on behalf of Aceh Tengah Police Chief AKBP Teguh Siswoyo, S.H., S.I.K., M.H. In his remarks, Samsir emphasized the importance of sound knowledge of the technical handling of crime scenes and evidence, as these are essential foundations for establishing evidence in criminal proceedings.
In his view, investigators' technical capabilities determine not only the quality of investigative work but also the accuracy and reliability of evidence that will later be used in legal proceedings.
"It is hoped that all participants will take the training seriously so that the knowledge they gain can be applied in carrying out their duties, particularly in handling crime scenes and evidence," he said.
Improving the Quality of Crime Scene Processing
The coaching clinic was attended by investigators and investigative assistants from the Criminal Investigation Unit, Narcotics Unit, and Traffic Unit of the Aceh Tengah, Bener Meriah, and Bireuen police districts.
The cross-functional event provided participants with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of each stage of crime scene processing. Investigators must ensure that the condition of a crime scene is preserved before carrying out any action that could alter the position or condition of objects at the scene.
Accurate crime scene processing is crucial because every object, trace, and material found at a crime scene may be relevant to establishing evidence. Investigators therefore require adequate technical skills to ensure that the securing, examination, collection, and management of evidence are carried out properly and in accordance with applicable procedures.
In addition to investigators, senior officers from relevant functions in each police district also attended the event. The heads of the Criminal Investigation Units, Narcotics Units, Traffic Units, as well as the heads of the Professional and Ethics Division and Internal Supervision Division (Propam) from the three police districts were also represented at the coaching clinic.
The involvement of personnel from various functions demonstrates that case handling, from securing a crime scene to examining evidence, requires close coordination. Effective coordination enables each stage of the investigative process to be conducted in a more structured manner while supporting the overall quality of police investigations.

Scientific Crime Investigation at the Center of the Training
The Polda Sumut Forensic Laboratory focused the training on the duties and functions of forensic laboratory work, particularly technical procedures for handling crime scenes and evidence.
The training materials were closely related to the application of Scientific Crime Investigation (SCI) in solving criminal cases. The SCI approach relies on scientific methods to assist investigators in analyzing various findings obtained from crime scenes. This approach is intended to provide a stronger and scientifically accountable foundation for the presentation of evidence.
In the practical handling of evidence, particular care is required from the earliest stage. Investigators must pay close attention to the condition of evidence, its securing, and its proper management to ensure that its evidentiary value is preserved for further examination.
The application of scientific methods also helps investigators avoid drawing conclusions based solely on assumptions. Each finding must be examined and analyzed according to the characteristics of the evidence and the requirements of the investigative process.
Through the coaching clinic, the Polda Sumut Forensic Laboratory strengthened investigators' understanding of the importance of procedural compliance and accuracy in crime scene processing. The training is expected to help investigators perform their duties professionally and objectively, based on evidence that can be scientifically verified.

Forensic Laboratory Experts Serve as Instructors
To deepen the training materials, the Polda Sumut Forensic Laboratory team assigned several instructors with expertise in various areas of forensic laboratory work.
The Head of the Forensic Communication and Documentation Subdivision (Fiskom) of the Forensic Laboratory, AKBP Roy Tenno Siburian, S.Si., M.Si., also shared his expertise during the event. In addition, the Head of the Narcotics Forensics Subdivision, AKBP Supriedi Hasugian, S.T., M.T., along with other Polda Sumut Forensic Laboratory personnel, served as members of the instructional team.
The presence of specialists from different fields gave participants an opportunity to broaden their knowledge of evidence handling according to the characteristics of each type of evidence and the requirements of forensic examination.
The knowledge provided is also intended to serve as a practical foundation for investigators working in the field. Investigators from the Criminal Investigation, Narcotics, and Traffic units face different requirements in securing and examining evidence, depending on the nature of the cases they handle.
Through the initiative, police officers from the Aceh Tengah, Bener Meriah, and Bireuen police districts are expected to be better prepared to correctly apply techniques for processing crime scenes and evidence. Strengthening their technical capabilities will also support the implementation of Scientific Crime Investigation in solving criminal cases.
