LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Information from residents regarding suspected increasing drug activity in Panjomuran Hamlet, Tanjung Mulia Village, Kampung Rakyat District, South Labuhanbatu Regency, led police to a man allegedly carrying crystal methamphetamine.

Officers from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kampung Rakyat Police, South Labuhanbatu Police, arrested FH alias Freddy, 29, a resident of Pangkalan Lunang Village, Kualuh Leidong District, North Labuhanbatu Regency. The arrest was made on Monday, August 24, 2026, at around 6:00 p.m. local time at an oil palm plantation in Panjomuran Hamlet.

During the arrest, officers found a plastic bag containing a crystalline substance suspected to be crystal methamphetamine. The substance had a gross weight of 1.63 grams. Police also seized a Poco-brand mobile phone that was in the man's possession.

Arrest Triggered by Public Information

South Labuhanbatu Police Chief AKBP Rosef Efendi, S.I.K., M.H., CPHR., through Kampung Rakyat Police Chief AKP Muhammad Ilham Lubis, S.H., said police took action after receiving information from residents who were concerned about suspected drug activity in the area.

"Information from the public is an important part of our efforts to uncover drug trafficking. Every report we receive is examined and followed up in accordance with applicable procedures," AKP Muhammad Ilham Lubis said Monday, August 24, 2026, at the South Labuhanbatu Police headquarters.

After receiving the information, the Kampung Rakyat Police chief instructed the head of the Criminal Investigation Unit, IPDA Apma Aldon Pulungan, S.H., M.H., together with the unit's operational team, to investigate the location identified by residents.

Police Seize 1.63 Grams of Suspected Crystal Meth

During a search of FH alias Freddy and the belongings he was carrying, officers found a plastic bag containing a substance suspected to be crystal methamphetamine, with a gross weight of 1.63 grams.

In addition to the suspected narcotics, police seized a Poco-brand mobile phone believed to be connected to the suspect's activities.

During initial questioning, FH alias Freddy admitted that the suspected narcotics belonged to him.

The officers then took the man, along with all seized evidence, to the police station for further examination and to proceed with the legal process.

The arrest highlights the important role of the community in supporting police efforts to uncover suspected drug trafficking. Information provided by residents can serve as a starting point for investigations into suspicious activities.

The location of the plantation area, which is relatively far from residential settlements, also requires collective vigilance. Residents are encouraged to immediately report suspicious activities, particularly those suspected of being related to narcotics abuse or trafficking, so police can respond professionally.

Police Urge Public to Actively Cooperate

The Kampung Rakyat Police chief emphasized that his unit would continue to follow up on every report from residents concerning suspected drug trafficking within its jurisdiction.

He also urged the public to report suspicious activities to police without delay.

"Drug trafficking poses a serious threat to society, particularly to the younger generation. We urge all elements of society to work together against drugs and immediately provide information to police if they become aware of suspected drug abuse or trafficking, either through the 110 call center or the nearest police station," he emphasized.

The discovery of the case in Panjomuran once again underscores the commitment of the Kampung Rakyat Police and South Labuhanbatu Police to further restricting the operating space of drug traffickers in the region.

Combating drugs requires cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the community. Police are responsible for conducting investigations, enforcing the law and pursuing legal proceedings, while residents can assist by providing information when they encounter suspicious activities.

Given the continuing threat posed by narcotics, such cooperation is an important safeguard against the further spread of drug trafficking. Timely information from the public can help authorities uncover drug trafficking networks while preventing their impact from reaching more people.

Following the arrest of FH alias Freddy, police are continuing to examine the suspect and the seized evidence. The ongoing investigation forms part of police efforts to determine whether the suspect may have had further involvement in activities related to drug trafficking.

The case also serves as a reminder to residents across South Labuhanbatu to remain vigilant about their surroundings. Active public participation through the sharing of information with police can help create a safer environment and further restrict the operating space of drug traffickers. (IDNC)
