SUSPECTED DRUG DEALER ARRESTED IN TORGAMBA: The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Narcotics Unit arrests DS, also known as Dedi, 25, during an operation targeting a suspected crystal methamphetamine trafficking case involving a total of 3.85 grams in Torgamba District.

LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Narcotics Unit has uncovered another suspected case of crystal methamphetamine trafficking. Officers arrested a 25-year-old farmer, DS, also known as Dedi, on Friday evening, August 21, 2026. He is a resident of Sungai Daun Hamlet, Pangarungan Village, Torgamba District, Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency.

During the arrest, police seized five transparent plastic sachets containing suspected crystal methamphetamine. The substance had a total weight of 3.85 grams. Officers also confiscated several other items believed to be connected to the suspected drug trafficking activity.

The case came to light following complaints from members of the public submitted through the Dumas Presisi reporting system to the police. Investigators from the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Narcotics Unit followed up on the information and conducted an investigation at the location identified by residents.

Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Chief AKBP Rosef Effendi confirmed the arrest through Narcotics Unit Chief AKP Wilson Manahan Panjaitan. The confirmation was conveyed to journalists on Monday, August 24, 2026, by the police's Public Relations Chief, AKP Sujono.

Investigation Began with a Public Tip

Based on information provided by residents, officers went to the location at around 10:30 p.m. local time. The operation was led by Ipda Dapot Tua Simanjuntak, head of Unit 1.

At the scene, officers noticed a man whose behavior appeared suspicious. They subsequently detained him and carried out questioning and a search.

While checking the surrounding area, investigators discovered a plastic bag hanging from a tree. Upon inspection, the bag contained five transparent plastic sachets of suspected crystal methamphetamine with a total weight of 3.85 grams.

The discovery strengthened police suspicions that the detained man was connected to possession of the prohibited substance. Officers then secured all the evidence for further investigation.

Crystal Meth Hidden in a Tree

In addition to the five transparent sachets containing suspected crystal methamphetamine, police confiscated an empty medium-sized transparent plastic bag, a white tissue, an electronic scale, two mobile phones, a small shovel and two packs of transparent plastic bags.

One of the mobile phones, which police believe may be connected to the case, was found on the ground near the arrest location. All of the items, along with DS, were taken to the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Narcotics Unit.

AKP Sujono, head of Public Relations at the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police, said DS admitted during initial questioning that he possessed the crystal methamphetamine. Investigators suspect that DS had prepared the drugs for resale.

"After questioning, DS admitted that the crystal methamphetamine belonged to him and was intended to be sold," AKP Sujono said.

During the initial interrogation, DS also told investigators that he had obtained the drugs from a man identified by the initials Ar, who was reportedly staying in the Sungai Daun Hamlet area.

Police launched further investigations that same night to locate Ar. However, officers have so far been unable to find the person identified by DS.

Police Search for Other Suspects

Following his arrest, DS was taken to the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Narcotics Unit to undergo the next stage of the legal process. Investigators are continuing their inquiry to determine whether other individuals may have been involved in the suspected drug trafficking network.

The case highlights the important role of public information in uncovering suspected drug offenses, including in rural areas. The report submitted through Dumas Presisi provided police with the initial lead that resulted in the investigation and subsequent operation at the suspected location.

The manner in which the suspected drugs were hidden also played an important role in the investigation. Police discovered the plastic bag containing the five sachets of suspected crystal methamphetamine while searching the surrounding area.

Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Chief AKBP Rosef Effendi reaffirmed his department's commitment to combating drug abuse and illegal narcotics trafficking. Police, he said, would continue working to protect security and public order in Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency from the dangers posed by drug trafficking.

The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police also urged residents not to remain silent if they become aware of suspected criminal activity or drug trafficking in their communities. Information from the public can help police prevent crimes and uncover larger criminal networks.

Members of the public can submit information or reports concerning suspected criminal activity through the Indonesian Police call center at 110. (IDNC)
