HUMANE PATROLS AGAINST ILLEGAL STREET RACING: Officers from the Aceh Tengah Police Traffic Unit strengthen community-oriented patrols at several checkpoints during vulnerable nighttime hours to prevent illegal street racing and provide a sense of security for road users.

ACEH TENGAH | INDATANEWS.COM- The Traffic Unit of the Aceh Tengah Police has strengthened its presence through targeted, community-oriented patrols during vulnerable nighttime hours. The operation aims to prevent illegal street racing and ensure the safety of road users. The operation, which began on Friday, August 21, 2026, and continued into the early hours of Saturday, saw officers monitoring several areas in Takengon and its surroundings considered vulnerable to traffic violations and public-order disturbances.

The patrol began at 8:30 p.m. local time and covered Jalan Lebe Kader, Jalan Sengeda, the Old Takengon Terminal, Inpres Market, the area in front of the Lintang gas station, and Jalan Desa Mongal in Bebesan District. A total of 10 Traffic Unit officers were deployed. The operation was supported by one patrol vehicle and two patrol motorcycles to monitor the various checkpoints.

The operation was not solely focused on preventing illegal street racing. Officers also prioritized direct dialogue with residents and road users to raise awareness about the importance of safe and lawful driving practices.

Patrols Target High-Risk Areas

Aceh Tengah Police Chief AKBP Muhamad Taufiq, S.I.K., M.H., through Traffic Unit Chief AKP Rerit Oktafiandi, S.Tr.K., S.I.K., CPHR, said the patrols were a preventive measure aimed at protecting public safety and lives on the road.

"The patrols are not only intended to prevent illegal street racing, but also to educate the public so that we can work together to maintain traffic order and safety. We are taking a humane and preventive approach," Rerit said.

According to him, the presence of officers at several vulnerable points is an important part of efforts to prevent potential disruptions to public safety and traffic order, particularly during the evening and early morning hours. The officers did not limit their activities to monitoring, but also actively engaged with members of the public.

During the patrol, officers spoke with residents and road users. They reminded the public to comply with applicable traffic regulations and to always prioritize safety while driving. The warnings also addressed the use of exhaust systems that produce excessive noise and disturb the peace of local residents.

This humane approach is part of the Aceh Tengah Traffic Unit's strategy to prevent traffic violations without neglecting public education. Officers emphasized that traffic order and safety can only be maintained through shared awareness and the active participation of all road users.

Four Motorcycles With Loud Exhausts Seized

During the patrol, Aceh Tengah Traffic Unit officers identified several motorcycles fitted with loud exhaust systems. Four motorcycles were subsequently seized for further processing in accordance with applicable regulations.

The vehicle owners were instructed to replace the loud exhaust systems with standard exhausts at the Aceh Tengah Police headquarters. The measure also served as an educational step to ensure that vehicle owners use equipment that meets the required standards and does not disrupt public order.

Loud exhaust systems are a frequent concern among residents because they can disturb the peace and comfort of communities, particularly at night. For this reason, Traffic Unit officers will continue their public education efforts and urge vehicle users to prioritize safety, order and mutual consideration on the road.

In addition to action against vehicles equipped with loud exhaust systems, officers continued to use persuasive and dialogue-based communication. Police reminded road users not to engage in activities that could endanger themselves or other motorists.

Police Urge Public to Obey Traffic Rules

The Aceh Tengah Police called on residents to work together to maintain orderly, safe and comfortable road conditions. Police believe preventive measures can be implemented more effectively when the public actively contributes to creating a safe and peaceful traffic environment.

Night patrols during vulnerable hours also aimed to ensure that residents could carry out their activities and use the roads safely. The presence of officers at multiple locations is expected to help prevent illegal street racing and dangerous driving behavior that could put other road users at risk.

The Aceh Tengah Traffic Unit will continue to prioritize preventive measures and a humane approach in maintaining road safety. Police also reminded drivers to comply with traffic regulations at all times, operate their vehicles according to applicable standards, and respect the rights of other road users.

Throughout the operation, conditions at the monitored locations remained safe and traffic flowed smoothly. Police hope cooperation between authorities and the community will continue to strengthen, helping ensure orderly and safe traffic conditions across Aceh Tengah on a lasting basis. (IDNC)
