LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM – Officers of the Class III Kotapinang Correctional Facility (Lapas) conducted a routine inspection of inmate cells on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. The activity was carried out as part of efforts to strengthen prevention measures against security and order disturbances within the correctional facility.
The inspection was part of an early detection program aimed at ensuring that the prison environment remains safe, orderly, and stable. Officers conducted a comprehensive examination of inmate living areas to prevent the presence and circulation of items prohibited inside the correctional facility.
Comprehensive Cell Inspection Conducted
The inspection began with inmates being gradually escorted out of their respective cells. Officers then carried out individual searches of each inmate as part of established security procedures.
Following the personal checks, officers thoroughly examined all areas inside the cells, ranging from room corners to storage areas used for inmates' personal belongings. The entire inspection process was accompanied by inmate representatives to ensure transparency and accountability during the operation.
During the inspection, officers discovered several items that were not permitted to be kept inside inmate cells. The confiscated items included a damaged cable, two glass bottles, two pieces of toothbrush handles, a broken spoon, a piece of metal, two batteries, a lighter, and a long rope.
All prohibited items found during the inspection were secured by officers and documented in accordance with applicable procedures.

"During the implementation, the situation remained safe, orderly, and under control without any obstacles. These routine inspections will continue as a commitment of Lapas Kotapinang to create a correctional environment that is safe, orderly, and free from prohibited items," Haris Damanik said.
He explained that all items discovered during the inspection had been recorded and inventoried in accordance with applicable regulations. After the documentation process is completed, the confiscated items will be destroyed to prevent misuse and reduce potential security risks within the facility.
According to him, the inspection program serves not only as a preventive measure but also as an effort to strengthen discipline and compliance with regulations among inmates.
