JAMBI | INDATANEWS.COM - The Jambi Provincial Police (Polda Jambi) has rescued an eight-month-old baby girl who was allegedly a victim of a human trafficking crime (Tindak Pidana Perdagangan Orang/TPPO). After receiving protection measures and comprehensive care, the baby, identified by the initial G, was returned safely and in good health to her biological mother, identified by the initial P.
Jambi Police Chief Inspector General of Police (Irjen Pol.) Krisno H. Siregar led a press conference on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, regarding the progress of the investigation into the alleged TPPO case. On the same occasion, he accompanied the handover of the victim to her family at the main foyer of the Jambi Police Headquarters.
The event was also attended by the Deputy Chief of Jambi Police, the Regent of Batang Hari, the Batang Hari Police Chief, the Head of the Regional Technical Implementation Unit for Women and Child Protection (UPTD PPA) of Batang Hari Regency, and the Head of Public Relations of Polda Jambi.
Investigation Into Alleged Human Trafficking Case Continues
During the press conference, Irjen Krisno stated that the investigation into the alleged TPPO case involving the child remains ongoing. To ensure professional, transparent, and accountable law enforcement, Polda Jambi has assigned the handling of the case to the Women and Child Protection Unit (Subdit PPA) under the Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum).
So far, investigators have questioned eight witnesses to uncover the complete sequence of events. Based on preliminary findings, authorities suspect that the case originated from a family conflict between the child's parents.
The conflict allegedly resulted in the child being handed over to another person in exchange for money. However, investigators are continuing to examine all circumstances and collect evidence to determine whether criminal elements are present in the case.
"This incident is not the first of its kind. The police must consider negotiations and the principle of ultimum remedium in law enforcement. The most important thing is that the victim has been rescued because the victim is a child.
Polda Jambi will facilitate the return of baby G to her mother, identified by the initial P," said Irjen Krisno.
In addition to the ongoing investigation, Irjen Krisno has also applied a humanitarian approach by involving various institutions in the rescue process. The police coordinated with the Batang Hari Regency Government, UPTD PPA, traditional leaders, and representatives from the Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) community.
These measures were carried out to ensure that the child's rescue process was conducted safely while prioritizing the best interests of the child.
During the protection period, the victim was placed at the Batang Hari UPTD PPA shelter. The baby received protection, medical examinations, and psychological assistance. Monitoring results showed that the child was in good physical and psychological condition.

Polda Jambi facilitated the return of baby G to her biological mother, P. The handover reflects the commitment of the Indonesian Police to ensuring the protection of children's rights throughout the ongoing legal process.
Head of Public Relations of Polda Jambi, Police Commissioner (Kombes Pol.) Erlan Munaji, stated that the safety and welfare of children remain the top priority in handling cases involving underage victims.

He emphasized that investigators will continue working to complete the investigation by gathering additional evidence and deepening statements from witnesses who have already been questioned.
"We urge the public not to spread speculation regarding the ongoing case. Trust that investigators are working professionally. Anyone proven to have committed a criminal act will be prosecuted according to applicable laws. At the same time, the interests and future of the victim remain our main concern," added Kombes Erlan.
