Polda Jambi Names Six Suspects in Brigadier EWS Assault Case

SIX SUSPECTS NAMED: Polda Jambi has named six suspects in the assault case that resulted in the death of police officer Brigadier EWS within the jurisdiction of Polres Tanjung Jabung Timur.

JAMBI | INDATANEWS.COM - The Jambi Provincial Police (Polda Jambi) have named six individuals as suspects in an alleged assault case that resulted in the death of police officer Brigadier EWS within the jurisdiction of the East Tanjung Jabung Police (Polres Tanjab Timur). The determination of the suspects was made after investigators completed several stages of examination in accordance with applicable legal procedures.

The Head of Public Relations of Polda Jambi, Police Commissioner (Kombes Pol.) Erlan Munaji, conveyed the latest progress of the investigation on Monday, July 27, 2026, during an informal discussion with media representatives at the Public Relations Media Center of Polda Jambi.

He explained that investigators from the General Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) of Polda Jambi, particularly the Violence and Crime Unit (Subdit Jatanras), together with investigators from the Criminal Investigation Unit of Polres Tanjab Timur, had carried out a series of investigative measures to uncover the facts behind the case.

Six Individuals Named Suspects After Investigation Process

Following several stages of case management, the status of the case was upgraded last Friday from a preliminary inquiry to a formal investigation. After the change in status, investigators immediately questioned a number of witnesses, collected evidence, and conducted a case review.

"Based on the investigation process and the case review, investigators named six individuals as suspects on Saturday. Five of the suspects are members of the police force, while one other suspect is a civilian. Each suspect has a different role and level of involvement in this case," said Kombes Pol. Erlan Munaji.

Based on the current investigation, authorities are continuing to examine the role of each suspect in order to fully reconstruct the sequence of events and uncover all aspects related to the incident.

Support from Polri Internal Teams Strengthens Investigation Oversight

During the handling of the case, Polda Jambi received assistance from several internal supervisory teams of the Indonesian National Police (Polri), including the General Inspectorate for Supervision (Itwasum Polri), the Professional and Security Division (Divpropam Polri), and the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri).

Kombes Pol. Erlan Munaji stated that the involvement of various internal supervisory institutions was part of the effort to ensure the investigation was conducted professionally, transparently, and accountably.

"We inform media colleagues that the handling of this case is also being accompanied by teams from Itwasum Polri, Divpropam Polri, and Bareskrim Polri. This is part of our effort to ensure that the entire process runs transparently and accountably," he said.

According to him, the support provided serves both as assistance and supervision to ensure that every stage of the investigation is carried out in accordance with legal provisions and established procedures.

Polda Jambi emphasized that the handling of the case is not only focused on law enforcement but also upholds the principle of objectivity throughout every stage of the investigation.

Jambi Police Chief: Anyone Involved Will Face Legal Process

Meanwhile, Jambi Police Chief Inspector General of Police (Irjen Pol.) Krisno H. Siregar, through the Head of Public Relations of Polda Jambi, reaffirmed his institution's commitment to handling the case seriously, professionally, and objectively.

He stated that the entire legal process would be based on facts discovered by investigators and evidence collected throughout the investigation.

"The Jambi Police Chief emphasizes that the handling of this case will be carried out professionally, transparently, and accountably. With the support of Itwasum Polri, Divpropam Polri, and Bareskrim Polri, it is expected that the entire process can be conducted according to applicable regulations. Anyone proven to be involved will be held accountable under the prevailing laws and regulations," said Kombes Erlan.

Polda Jambi assured that there would be no special treatment for anyone proven to be involved in the case. All parties involved will be held accountable in accordance with applicable legal provisions.

Currently, investigators from Ditreskrimum Polda Jambi and the Propam Division of Polda Jambi are continuing their investigation to further clarify the roles of each suspect and complete all necessary evidence related to the case.

Polda Jambi Continues Public Updates on Investigation Progress

Kombes Erlan assured that his institution would continue providing updates to the public regarding important developments in the case through official information channels.

He said the move was part of Polda Jambi's commitment to transparency toward the public while maintaining public trust in the ongoing law enforcement process.

"Investigators are currently continuing the investigation. We ensure that the process is carried out transparently and accountably. Every important development in this case will be communicated to the public according to the investigation stages and procedural requirements," Kombes Erlan concluded.

With the designation of six suspects, Polda Jambi continues to thoroughly investigate the alleged assault case that led to the death of Brigadier EWS.
