Dispute Escalates Into Machete Attack

Lubuk Baja Police Chief Commissioner Deni Langie explained that the serious assault was triggered by a verbal dispute between the victim and the suspect. The violent incident occurred on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at around 8:00 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), at the parking area of Hotel Kundur, Lubuk Baja District.

The victim, Fikri Afandi Siahaan, 36, was allegedly attacked by the suspect identified as SPM, 33, using a machete. The assault was reportedly motivated by personal resentment and a misunderstanding that had occurred several hours earlier.

Before the attack, the victim's wife, Liana Hamsanah, had an argument with the suspect at an arcade. The dispute reportedly began after a situation where access was blocked. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly used insulting words, which the victim later objected to.

The tension between the victim and suspect continued into the afternoon. The situation escalated when the victim went to pick up his wife after she finished work.

"When the victim was waiting at the motorcycle parking area for his wife, the suspect suddenly approached from behind and struck the victim's back with a machete while shouting, 'Die!'" Commissioner Deni Langie said.

The victim attempted to defend himself from the attack but suffered serious cuts to his arm, left hand, and left thigh. After carrying out the assault, the suspect immediately fled the scene.

Local residents helped the victim and took him for medical treatment. The victim was later transported to Harapan Bunda Hospital for further care.

Police Track Down Suspect at Hiding Place

Lubuk Baja Police received an official report regarding the incident on Friday, July 17, 2026. Following the report, the investigation team led by Ipda Gihon immediately coordinated with the operational Jatanras team of Polresta Barelang, led by Ipda Dedy Yantho Pasaribu, as well as personnel from the Jatanras Unit of Polda Kepri.

The joint team conducted intensive investigations to determine the suspect's whereabouts. Based on information from the public and further field analysis, officers obtained accurate information regarding the suspect's location at 9:45 p.m.

Without delay, the URC team moved to a rented room at Jalan Nagoya Business Centre Block 5, Lubuk Baja District. Ten minutes later, at exactly 9:55 p.m., officers conducted a raid and arrested Surya Putra Munthe without resistance.

At the time of his arrest, the suspect was found sleeping inside the room. Officers then brought the suspect, along with the collected evidence, to Lubuk Baja Police Station for further investigation.

During the arrest, police secured several pieces of evidence, including a machete allegedly used in the attack and a medical certificate documenting the victim's treatment at Harapan Bunda Hospital.
