MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Medan District Prosecutor's Office (Kejaksaan Negeri Medan) has requested a seven-year prison sentence for defendant Fahrul Azis Siregar, who is accused of setting fire to the house of Medan District Court Judge Khamozaro Waruwu and stealing gold belonging to the judge. Prosecutors stated that all elements of the criminal charges against the defendant were proven during the trial proceedings.
Prosecutor Rahmayani Amir Ahmad read out the indictment and sentencing request during an open hearing held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Courtroom Cakra 7 of the Medan District Court. In the hearing, the prosecution stated that Fahrul Azis Siregar had been proven to have committed the criminal acts as charged under the first and second cumulative indictments.
The charges were based on Article 308 Paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 125 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Indonesian Criminal Code (Kitab Undang-Undang Hukum Pidana), as well as Article 477 Paragraph (1) Letter f in conjunction with Article 125 Paragraph (1) of the same law.
"We therefore request that the defendant Fahrul Azis Siregar be sentenced to seven years of imprisonment," Rahmayani said while delivering the prosecution's sentencing demand before the panel of judges.
Prosecutors Consider All Charges Fully Proven
In the sentencing request, prosecutors emphasized that Fahrul Azis Siregar had fulfilled the legal elements of the two cumulative criminal offenses charged against him. The conclusion was based on facts revealed during the trial, including submitted evidence and statements from witnesses.
The case has attracted significant public attention as it involves a former driver who is accused of setting fire to the residence of his former employer, Medan District Court Judge Khamozaro Waruwu, and stealing gold from the property.
Based on these considerations, the prosecution asked the panel of judges to impose a seven-year prison sentence on the defendant. Prosecutors argued that the sentence would represent legal accountability for the alleged crimes committed.

Defendant Requests Leniency From Judges
Following the prosecution's sentencing demand, Fahrul Azis Siregar personally submitted his defense statement (pleidoi) before the panel of judges led by Chief Judge Sulhanuddin.
The 30-year-old defendant, who resides on Jalan Mulia Dusun III Biru-Biru, Sidodadi Village, Biru-Biru District, Deli Serdang Regency, expressed remorse over his actions and requested a lighter sentence from the court.
"I promise that I will become a better person. I regret what I have done. I still have a young child, Your Honors," he said while asking the judges for compassion.
The request for a reduced sentence is part of the defendant's defense before the panel of judges delivers its final verdict in the case.
Verdict Scheduled to Be Delivered in Two Weeks
After hearing the prosecution's sentencing request and the defendant's defense, the panel of judges decided to postpone the hearing. Chief Judge Sulhanuddin scheduled the next hearing for the reading of the verdict on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
During the postponement period, the panel of judges will review all facts presented during the trial, evidence, the prosecutor's sentencing demand, and the defendant's defense statement before reaching a final decision.
The case involving the arson attack on the house and the theft of gold belonging to a Medan District Court judge has now entered the final stage of the legal process. The verdict will determine whether the court accepts, reduces, or adjusts the prosecution's request for a seven-year prison sentence based on other legal considerations. (IDNC)
