BATAM | INDATANEWS.COM - The Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the Barelang Police Department (Polresta Barelang) has uncovered an alleged case of sexual violence against a child in Batu Ampar District, Batam. Police arrested a 24-year-old man with the initials MSM, who is suspected of being involved in the case.

The Barelang Police presented the case disclosure during a press conference held on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) in the lobby of the Polresta Barelang headquarters. The event was led by Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Polresta Barelang, Kompol M. Debby Tri Andrestian. He was accompanied by Acting Head of the Child Protection Unit (PPA) of Satreskrim Polresta Barelang, Iptu Hudan Mega Bani Deha, along with representatives from the Polresta Barelang Public Relations Division.

In this case, police are handling a report regarding an alleged criminal offense involving a minor victim. The incident came to light after the complainant received information from the victim regarding the alleged incident, which reportedly occurred on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

Police Reveal Suspect's Modus Operandi in Child Sexual Violence Case

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Polresta Barelang, Kompol M. Debby Tri Andrestian, stated that based on the preliminary investigation, the alleged act occurred on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, in the Batu Ampar area, Batam.

According to the investigation findings, the suspect allegedly offered financial assistance in the form of money to the minor victim while allegedly pursuing certain intentions. Police suspect that the suspect may have taken advantage of the child's vulnerable condition and need for assistance to commit an unlawful act.

After receiving the report and obtaining statements from the victim and witnesses, Unit VI of Satreskrim Polresta Barelang carried out a series of investigative procedures. The officers subsequently arrested MSM on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at around 6:00 p.m. for further examination.

Satreskrim Secures Several Pieces of Evidence

During the investigation process, investigators from Satreskrim Polresta Barelang confiscated several items believed to be related to the case. The seized evidence includes clothing, personal belongings, and a mobile phone.

Investigators are continuing their efforts to complete the investigation file through examinations of the victim, witnesses, and other individuals connected to the alleged crime.

Based on his alleged actions, the suspect is being charged under Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) No. 1 of 2016 concerning the Second Amendment to Law No. 23 of 2002 on Child Protection.

The suspect faces a minimum imprisonment sentence of five years and a maximum of 15 years, as well as a fine of up to Rp5 billion, in accordance with applicable legal provisions.

Police Urge Parents to Strengthen Child Supervision

Kompol M. Debby Tri Andrestian emphasized the important role of families in protecting and supervising children to prevent them from becoming victims of various forms of crime.

"We urge all parents to continue paying attention to their children's environment because the role of parents is very important. Together, we must protect the future and lives of our children. Do not allow cases like this to happen again. We assure the public that the suspect will be handled thoroughly by the PPA Investigation Unit of Satreskrim Polresta Barelang," said the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Polresta Barelang.

The Polresta Barelang reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children and stated that it would take firm action against anyone who makes children victims of criminal acts.

Police also appealed to the public to immediately report alleged criminal acts or disturbances to public security and order through the emergency police hotline 110. This service is available for citizens who need rapid assistance and an immediate police response. (IDNC)
