MATTRESS THEFT SUSPECT ARRESTED: Jelutung Police have arrested a suspect allegedly involved in the theft of mattresses from a commercial building in Payo Lebar, Jambi City. Seven additional stolen mattresses are still being searched for.

JAMBI | INDATANEWS.COM - The Jelutung Sector Police (Polsek Jelutung) have arrested a suspect allegedly involved in the theft of ten mattresses from a storage area inside a commercial building located at Jalan Sultan Agung No. 067, RT 11, Payo Lebar Village, Jelutung District, Jambi City. The suspect is believed to have entered the building by forcing open a second-floor window before taking the mattresses belonging to the shop owner.

The theft reportedly took place on Monday, June 22, 2026, at around 4:00 a.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB). However, the owner only discovered the incident two days later when he went to the second floor of the building to perform prayers.

Suspect Allegedly Entered Through Second-Floor Window

Upon arriving on the second floor, the owner noticed that the number of mattresses stored inside the shop had significantly decreased. He then asked an employee to check the inventory records through the computer system to verify the registered stock levels.

The inspection showed that the data in the system remained complete. Due to the discrepancy between the recorded inventory and the actual stock, the owner and his employee conducted a direct inspection of the second-floor storage area.

During the inspection, they found that the glass panel of a window had been altered and appeared to have been shifted or loosened. The discovery strengthened suspicions that someone had gained access to the building through the window.

After conducting a thorough check, the owner found that a total of ten mattresses were missing from the storage area. The incident caused an estimated loss of around Rp4 million. The case was subsequently reported to the Jelutung Police for further investigation.

Investigation Leads Police to Suspect's Identity

Jelutung Police Chief AKP Choiril Umam stated that his officers immediately followed up on the victim's report. The criminal investigation unit of Polsek Jelutung then carried out a series of investigations that led to the identification of a suspected perpetrator.

Police officers eventually arrested the suspect at his residence in the Payo Lebar area, Jambi City. Authorities also secured several pieces of evidence believed to be connected to the theft.

"The suspect was arrested along with evidence. During the investigation, police secured CCTV footage and recovered three of the stolen mattresses. The search for the remaining seven mattresses is still ongoing," he said on Friday, July 10, 2026.

AKP Choiril Umam added that CCTV recordings played an important role in uncovering the case. Police are continuing their investigation to locate the seven missing mattresses and gather additional evidence related to the incident.

Police Recover Three Stolen Mattresses

During the investigation process, officers managed to secure three mattresses believed to have been taken during the theft. At the same time, police continue searching for the other seven mattresses that remain missing.

Investigators are also examining additional information that could assist in locating all remaining evidence. These efforts are aimed at completing the investigation and revealing the full sequence of events surrounding the crime.

The suspect is currently being held at the Jelutung Police Station and will undergo further legal proceedings in accordance with applicable regulations. Investigators continue conducting interrogations and developing the case.

The public has also been urged to improve security measures at business premises, especially during vulnerable hours, and ensure that all building access points are properly secured to prevent similar incidents in the future. (IDNC)
