DELISERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM – Governor of North Sumatra Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution officially opened the "North Sumatra Governor's Cup" Kite Festival on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Youth and Sports Office Complex in North Sumatra, Deliserdang. The event is positioned not only as a recreational and mass sports activity but also as a strategic effort to boost regional tourism development.
The two-day festival, held from May 9 to 10, 2026, attracted more than 1,000 participants from various regions across
North Sumatra. The strong turnout highlighted the community's enthusiasm for traditional recreational activities.
"I greatly welcome this kite festival. More than a thousand participants show that traditional games remain attractive even in the digital era," Bobby said.

He encouraged stronger integration of such activities into daily life, especially amid increasing digital device usage among children.

Today, they should spend more time outdoors and less time on smartphones and games. Traditional activities such as kite flying and other local games should be revived," he added.

kite festival is part of the "Road to
Forprovsu 2026" series. The major event, scheduled for October 2026, is expected to gather more than 10,000 participants and further strengthen mass sports development in the region.
Also present at the event were the Head of the North Sumatra Youth and Sports Office, Mahfullah Pratama, and the Head of the Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy Office, Yuda Pratiwi Setiawan, along with numerous students who participated or attended as spectators. (IDNC)
