LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Heavy rain and the driver's suspected fatigue caused a truck carrying lemons to overturn on the Trans-Sumatra Road (Jalinsum) in Beringin Jaya Village, Torgamba District, Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency, on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at around 6:00 a.m.
The single-vehicle accident involved a Mitsubishi Colt Diesel bearing registration number BL 8950 JK, driven by Riski Saputra. The truck was carrying approximately seven tons of lemons from Medan to Baganbatu.
There were no fatalities in the accident. However, the truck's overturned position on the road temporarily disrupted traffic along one of the main transportation routes connecting several areas in North Sumatra and its surrounding regions.
Truck Loses Control in Rainy Conditions
Torgamba Police Chief AKP Sunipan Gurusinga, S.H., M.H., reported the incident to Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Chief AKBP Rosef Efendi, S.I.K., M.H., CPHR.
According to police, the accident occurred while the truck was traveling along the Jalinsum in Beringin Jaya Village amid rainy weather. Upon reaching the accident location, the driver reportedly became tired and lost control of the heavily loaded vehicle.
As a result, the truck went out of control and eventually overturned. Officers immediately went to the scene to secure the area and regulate traffic passing through the accident site.
The position of the overturned vehicle significantly obstructed the roadway. Motorists were therefore required to reduce their speed while passing the location.
Although the accident caused the truck to overturn and partially blocked the road, police confirmed that there were no fatalities. Officers also immediately implemented security measures to prevent more serious traffic disruptions.

Police Implement Alternating Traffic System
In response to the accident, officers from the
Torgamba Police immediately secured the scene and regulated traffic. During the recovery and evacuation of the vehicle, police implemented an alternating traffic system, allowing vehicles to pass in turns.
The officers involved included AIPTU B. Sinaga, AIPTU P.F. Tanjung, AIPTU Daniansyah, AIPTU Supiyan, BRIGPOL Sofiadi, BRIGPOL Irwan A.S., and BRIPDA Torop M. Nurung.
Officers managed traffic from both directions so motorists could continue using the Jalinsum even though part of the roadway was blocked by the
overturned truck.
The alternating traffic arrangement also provided sufficient space for officers to recover the vehicle. The measure was intended to prevent long queues from forming and reduce the risk of further accidents around the scene.
At the time of reporting, police were continuing to implement the alternating traffic arrangement in the area. Officers were also monitoring the situation and overseeing the recovery of the overturned vehicle.
Police were also working to ensure that the recovery operation was carried out safely and that the road obstruction could be cleared as quickly as possible. Traffic management is particularly important during such operations because the Jalinsum is heavily used by private vehicles as well as trucks and other transport vehicles.

Drivers Urged Not to Take Risks When Tired
The accident involving the lemon-laden truck once again highlights the risks that can arise on major transportation routes when poor weather conditions coincide with driver fatigue or drowsiness.
The Jalinsum plays an important role in connecting various regions while supporting public mobility and the transportation of goods. The high volume of traffic along the route requires drivers to exercise extra caution, particularly when rain makes the road surface wet.
Heavy vehicles carrying substantial loads also require careful handling, as the weight of their cargo can, under certain conditions, affect maneuverability and braking performance.
In connection with the incident in Beringin Jaya Village, police identified the driver's suspected fatigue as a factor in the loss of control. Meanwhile, officers focused on securing the accident scene, regulating traffic, and recovering the overturned truck.
The absence of fatalities is positive news in connection with the accident. Nevertheless, the incident drew attention because accidents involving trucks and other transport vehicles can pose risks to drivers, occupants of other vehicles, and other road users in the surrounding area.
Drivers of transport vehicles, particularly those traveling long distances, should ensure that they are in good physical condition before continuing their journey. Once fatigue or drowsiness sets in, they should not attempt to continue driving at all costs.
Adequate rest is essential for maintaining concentration while driving. Drivers should also adjust their speed to weather and road conditions, particularly during rainfall, when visibility may be reduced and the road surface may become slippery.
A loss of concentration lasting only a few seconds can cause a vehicle to go out of control. On heavily traveled routes such as the Jalinsum, such a situation can endanger not only the driver and the transported cargo but also the safety of other road users.
Torgamba Police continued traffic management around the accident scene until the vehicle recovery operation was completed. Officers also ensured that traffic could continue to pass through the area alternately during the recovery process.
The accident serves as a reminder to all road users to always prioritize safety, take weather conditions into account, and ensure before setting out that their physical condition allows them to drive safely.
