DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - The presence of the Community Empowerment Institution (Lembaga Pemberdayaan Masyarakat/LPM) in Deli Serdang Regency is once again in the spotlight as one of the central pillars in strengthening community-based development down to the village and neighborhood level. The regional government, together with relevant stakeholders, hopes the organization will become a driving force for public participation in sustainable development programs.

The expectation was underscored when the Regent of Deli Serdang, Asri Ludin Tambunan, attended the inauguration ceremony of 100 members of the Regional Board (DPD) of LPM Deli Serdang for the 2025–2030 term at Grha Bhineka Perkasa Jaya on Sunday, June 21, 2026. The Regent highlighted the importance of close collaboration between LPM and the government at all levels as the foundation of inclusive regional development.

The inauguration of the newly appointed DPD LPM officials was directly led by the Chairman of the North Sumatra Provincial DPD LPM, Rolel Harahap, and witnessed by the Chairman of the National Executive Board (DPP) LPM RI, Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tanjung. In the new organizational structure, Wildan Diapari Hasibuan was appointed as chairman, Irfan Fadly as secretary, and Chairul Alwi Hasibuan as treasurer.

LPM Strengthens Grassroots Participation In Development

The Regent, dr. H. Asri Ludin Tambunan, emphasized that the inauguration should serve as a starting point to strengthen collaboration between LPM at the regency, sub-district, and village levels. Such synergy is considered key in supporting both national programs and regional development priorities.

"We hope this inauguration today marks the beginning of strong collaboration between LPM at the regency, sub-district, and village levels. This synergy will support various development programs, both national initiatives and the vision and mission of Deli Serdang's development," he said.

He further explained that LPM is a continuation of the former Village Community Resilience Institution (Lembaga Ketahanan Masyarakat Desa/LKMD). With changes in regulatory frameworks, the institution has evolved toward a stronger focus on community empowerment policies.

According to him, although LKMD and LPM differ in legal basis, both share the same objective: strengthening communities from the grassroots level.

Local Government Calls For Active Village Engagement

The Regent also stressed the importance of active involvement from sub-district heads (Camat) and village heads in integrating LPM into development efforts. Only through open collaboration can the organization achieve its full impact.

"I ask all Camat and village heads to involve LPM and work together in community development. Ensure that LPM truly functions as an instrument of public participation and is present in villages and communities," he stated.

He also extended his congratulations to the newly appointed board members, reminding them that their responsibilities must go beyond the formal inauguration ceremony.

"Congratulations to all newly appointed members. I hope this inauguration is not merely ceremonial, but becomes the first step toward strengthening community development in Deli Serdang," he added.

LPM Affirms Role As Strategic Government Partner

Chairman of DPD LPM Deli Serdang, Wildan Diapari Hasibuan, affirmed his commitment to developing LPM as a platform that strengthens shared understanding and improves collaboration in implementing empowerment functions.

He stressed that LPM plays a strategic role as a government partner, particularly in development from the village and community levels. The success of regional development, he noted, largely depends on active public participation at the local level.

LPM Urges Action Against Social Challenges

Chairman of DPP LPM RI, Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tanjung, expressed appreciation for the support of the Deli Serdang government. He emphasized that sustainable development must always begin from the grassroots and actively involve the community.

"LPM was born for and developed by the community. Its main task is to organize, coordinate, empower, and develop society according to its potential," he said.

He described the inauguration as a meaningful moment and highlighted that this was his first direct attendance at such an event at the regency level. The strong presence of government officials and village structures was seen as a positive sign of collaboration on the ground.

He further urged LPM not only to focus on development issues but also to actively address social problems such as drug abuse and bullying among children and youth.

"LPM must be part of the solution. We must jointly fight drugs and prevent bullying that can damage the future of our children and youth," he emphasized.

The event was attended by members of the regional Forkopimda, the Head of the Deli Serdang National Narcotics Agency (BNN), government agency representatives, Camat officials, village heads, and LPM representatives from various districts across North Sumatra. (IDNC)
