MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Bayu Waas expressed his appreciation to the management and members of Maluku Medan Bersatu (MMB) for their commitment to social and humanitarian activities that directly benefit the community. The appreciation was delivered during a social service event held at the PKK Building in Medan Petisah District on Sunday (June 21, 2026).
The event, which began in the morning, provided a variety of public services, including blood donation drives, free health screenings, and free ultrasound (USG) examinations. The organizing committee also held a Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) bazaar aimed at supporting local economic growth.
On the occasion, Rico Waas expressed admiration for the concrete actions undertaken by Maluku Medan Bersatu. According to him, the organization's commitment is particularly commendable because it has already implemented community-oriented programs even though its board has yet to be officially inaugurated.
He noted that MMB's initiative serves as a positive example for other community organizations in Medan, as it chose to contribute to society before undergoing its formal inauguration process.
"We all know that Maluku Medan Bersatu has organized an extraordinary and meaningful event today. The organization has not even been officially inaugurated yet. Usually, organizations are inaugurated first before carrying out activities," Rico Waas said.
His remarks were warmly welcomed by attendees. Throughout the event, the mayor created a friendly atmosphere by engaging participants and adding humor to his speech.
According to Rico Waas, MMB's social programs demonstrate the organization's strong commitment to serving the public interest. He expressed hope that the spirit of community service would continue to grow after the official inauguration of its leadership.
"If such significant benefits can already be delivered before the inauguration, I hope the impact will become even greater after the organization is officially inaugurated," he added.
Social Commitment Before InaugurationRico Waas emphasized that the social service activities organized by Maluku Medan Bersatu were not merely gatherings among members but a tangible expression of social responsibility.
Through free health screenings and ultrasound services, residents gained easier access to medical care without financial burden. Such programs are especially beneficial for individuals who require regular health monitoring.
The blood donation drive, one of the event's key programs, also received special attention from the mayor. He described blood donation as a form of social responsibility that carries immense humanitarian value.
The demand for blood supplies in hospitals and healthcare facilities continues to increase as more patients require various medical treatments. Therefore, regular blood donation programs play a vital role in maintaining adequate blood reserves.
He encouraged residents to make blood donation a lasting humanitarian culture. The more people participate, the greater the opportunity to save lives.
According to Rico Waas, even a single donation can provide hope to patients who depend on blood transfusions during emergencies or ongoing treatment.
Blood Donation Benefits Public HealthIn addition to its humanitarian value, Rico Waas also highlighted the health benefits of donating blood.
He explained that blood donation not only benefits recipients but also contributes positively to the donor's health. The process stimulates the natural regeneration of red blood cells and helps maintain overall physical well-being.
"Donating blood makes us healthier because the body continuously produces new blood cells after donation," Rico Waas explained.
He hoped that greater public understanding of these benefits would encourage more people to participate in blood donation and other humanitarian activities.
Rico Waas also expressed hope that more community organizations in Medan would initiate similar social programs. Besides strengthening relationships within organizations, such activities provide direct assistance to residents in need.
He added that collaboration among community organizations, the city government, healthcare institutions, and other stakeholders is essential to building sustainable social responsibility throughout Medan.
Medan City Government Supports Community InitiativesDuring the event, Rico Waas reaffirmed the Medan City Government's commitment to supporting community activities that benefit the public.
According to him, the city administration remains open to collaboration with organizations and community groups dedicated to social development and public welfare.
This support extends beyond policy initiatives and includes access to public facilities that can be utilized for community-oriented programs.
Rico Waas even stated that organizations and community groups are welcome to use municipal facilities, including the PKK Building, for social activities.
The policy reflects the city government's commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen social cohesion and help address the needs of local residents.
To further engage the audience, Rico Waas interacted directly with attendees. Several participants received prizes after successfully answering questions posed by the mayor.
Following his remarks, Rico Waas personally toured all sections of the social service program, including the blood donation station, free health screening area, ultrasound services, and the MSME bazaar featuring local entrepreneurs.
The mayor's presence was warmly welcomed by both participants and organizers, reflecting the strong partnership between the city government and community organizations in advancing public welfare.
The event was also attended by representatives of Military District Command (Kodim) 0201/Medan, Infantry Captain Sofyan, MMB Patron Datuk Seri Adil Freddy Haberham, MMB Chairwoman Fitri Oktavia Noya, Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Medan representative John Ismadi Lubis, Vice Rector III of Universitas Darmawangsa Umar Hamdan Nasution, Organizing Committee Chairman Zulkifli Taib, Head of Medan Youth and Sports Office T. Chairuniza, and numerous prominent figures from the Maluku community in Medan.
The participation of various stakeholders highlighted the strong spirit of collaboration behind the social initiative.
