MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Provincial Government of North Sumatra, through PT Dhirga Surya Sumatera Utara, has officially entered into a strategic partnership with PT Murni Sadar Tbk (RS Murni Teguh) to plan the development and operation of an international hospital in North Sumatra.
The agreement was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Governor's Office of North Sumatra on Jalan Diponegoro No. 30, Medan, on Friday, June 19, 2026.
This initiative marks a significant step by the regional government to strengthen the healthcare system and reduce the number of North Sumatran residents seeking medical treatment abroad. The planned international hospital is expected to address the growing demand for advanced medical services that have so far been limited in the region.
Launch Toward Global Healthcare Standards
The MoU was signed by Ari Wibowo, President Director of PT Dhirga Surya Sumatera Utara, and Mutiara, President Director of PT Murni Sadar Tbk (RS Murni Teguh). The ceremony was also attended by Basarin Yunus Tanjung, Assistant for Government and Welfare at the Regional Secretariat of North Sumatra, and Faisal Hasrimy, Head of the North Sumatra Health Office.
Basarin Yunus Tanjung emphasized that the agreement represents the initial step toward achieving international hospital standards in North Sumatra.
"This Memorandum of Understanding will run for six months as the initial phase before transitioning into a formal cooperation agreement (PKS). Therefore, strong commitment from all parties is essential to develop a clear roadmap," he stated.
He added that the project is the result of long-term studies and responds to the high number of patients currently traveling abroad for treatment.
"Every day, there are six to nine flights from North Sumatra to neighboring countries for medical purposes. This potential should be managed locally so that public funds do not flow abroad. At the same time, the quality of local healthcare must also be improved," he said.

Investment and Healthcare Sector Modernization
Ari Wibowo, President Director of PT Dhirga Surya Sumatera Utara, welcomed the collaboration, calling it an important milestone in improving healthcare services for approximately 15 million residents of North Sumatra.
"We highly appreciate this cooperation. Within the next six months, all requirements, studies, and administrative processes are expected to be completed so the agreement can be transformed into a concrete cooperation contract," he said.
He emphasized that PT Dhirga Surya would strengthen cross-sector coordination to accelerate project implementation. The hospital is expected to become a symbol of progress in the region's healthcare sector.
"We are optimistic that this project will become both a necessity and a source of pride for the people of North Sumatra, representing a new face of regional healthcare," he added.
Mutiara, President Director of PT Murni Sadar Tbk, also expressed full support for the initiative, which aims to sustainably improve the quality of healthcare services.
"The main objective of this cooperation is to enhance the quality of healthcare for the people of North Sumatra. We hope that within six months all planning stages will be completed and transitioned into a formal partnership," she said.

Strengthening Medical Expertise and Health Technology
Mutiara further emphasized that strengthening medical expertise will be a key component of the project through training programs, capacity building, and collaboration with international experts.
"We want the public to receive international-standard healthcare services without having to travel abroad. By strengthening human resources, technology, and collaboration, this goal can be achieved," she explained.
She added that the international hospital would not only represent an investment project but also a tangible contribution to improving the quality of life for the people of North Sumatra.
The project is expected to enhance access to modern healthcare services while strengthening the region's position in the national and international health sector. (IDNC)
