MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Provincial Government of North Sumatra has intensified its efforts to combat drug distribution and abuse through a comprehensive, integrated strategy. The initiative combines stricter monitoring, firm law enforcement, preventive programs, and strengthened coordination among government agencies, aiming to create a safer and drug-free environment across the province.
Head of the North Sumatra Communication and Information Agency, Erwin Hotmansah Harahap, stated that the government continues to expand its monitoring and enforcement operations, including intensified raids and an integrated surveillance system in collaboration with law enforcement authorities.
"The Provincial Government of North Sumatra is committed to consistent and coordinated supervision and enforcement together with relevant agencies. We take the fight against drugs very seriously," Erwin said on Monday, June 15, 2026.
He added that these operations are designed to deliver long-term impact, particularly in suppressing drug trafficking networks and creating a strong deterrent effect.
Integrated Anti-Drug StrategyThe provincial government is also implementing a broader strategy that includes establishing prevention task forces, conducting joint patrols in high-risk areas, and expanding rehabilitation services for drug users. Public awareness campaigns are also being intensified to strengthen community involvement.
In addition, authorities are improving early warning systems to detect and prevent drug abuse at an early stage. This approach is expected to significantly limit the operational space of drug-related criminal networks across the region.

The regulation applies to civil servants, non-permanent staff, and employees of state-owned enterprises.
"This policy aims to protect the public, especially the youth, from potential misuse and health risks," Erwin added.
Authorities also cited recommendations from Indonesia's National Narcotics Agency (BNN), which highlight the potential risks of e-cigarettes as a medium for illicit substances.
