INTENSIVE DISCUSSIONS ON UUPA REVISION: The Aceh Government, DPR Aceh, and Forbes Aceh hold talks in Jakarta focusing on regional authority and fiscal strengthening.

JAKARTA | INDATANDEWS.COM - The Government of Aceh has intensified its political and administrative efforts to accelerate the revision of the Law on the Government of Aceh (UUPA), reinforcing its commitment to strengthening the region's special autonomy framework.

A strategic dialogue involving the Aceh Provincial Government, the Aceh Regional Legislative Council (DPR Aceh), and the Forum Bersama of members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) and Regional Representative Council (DPD RI), known as Forbes Aceh, was held on Monday, June 15, 2026, at the Aceh Government Representative Office in Jakarta. The meeting took place from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Institutional Consolidation Between Executive and LegislatureThe meeting served as a crucial platform for aligning perspectives between Aceh's executive and legislative bodies regarding the planned revision of the UUPA, which forms the legal foundation of the province's special autonomy status.

Officials emphasized that the revision is not merely a legal adjustment but a strategic milestone that will determine Aceh's long-term development direction.

"The joint dialogue is essential, as the UUPA revision is also about shaping Aceh's future," Governor Muzakir Manaf (Mualem) said through his spokesperson, Dr. Nurlis Effendi.

Focus on Expanding Authority and Fiscal StrengthGovernor Muzakir Manaf outlined two key priorities in the reform process: expanding regional authority and strengthening Aceh's fiscal autonomy. Both pillars are considered central to the province's demands in the ongoing legislative review.

To ensure an organized discussion process, Aceh Regional Secretary M. Nasir was appointed to lead the coordination. Under his facilitation, the meeting evolved into an in-depth exchange of political and institutional viewpoints.

Cross-Party Political Solidarity Strengthens Lobby EffortsThe meeting was attended by a broad coalition of Forbes Aceh representatives at the national level, including TA Khalid (Gerindra Party), Dr. Nasir Djamil and Ghufran Zainal Abidin (PKS), Muslim Aiyub (PAN), and Teuku Ibrahim (Demokrat Party). Their presence underscored the importance of coordinated political advocacy for Aceh at the national stage.

The DPR Aceh leadership also participated at a high level, led by Chairman Zulfadhli (Partai Aceh), alongside Vice Chairpersons Saifuddin Muhammad (Nasdem), Ali Basrah (Golkar), and Salihin (PKB). All faction leaders within the provincial parliament were also present, reflecting broad institutional unity.

Unified Stance Across Political FactionsRepresentatives from all major factions—including Partai Aceh, Nasdem, Golkar-PAN-PDA, PKB, Demokrat, Gerindra, and PPP-PAS Aceh—agreed on the need for the UUPA revision to provide greater room for regional interests.

The collective attendance signaled a rare level of political cohesion, with all parties aligning on the importance of strengthening Aceh's autonomy framework.

At the opening of the session, Secretary M. Nasir conveyed the governor's appreciation to Forbes Aceh and the DPR Aceh for their sustained efforts in advancing the revision process.

"All parties are working tirelessly to push the UUPA revision forward," Nasir stated.

DPR Aceh Speaker Zulfadhli also praised Forbes Aceh, describing its role in the national parliament as vital for representing Aceh's interests.

"Your role is extraordinary; you show strong dedication to Aceh," he said.

Shared Commitment to Strengthen Aceh's FutureTA Khalid concluded the meeting by stressing the importance of maintaining a unified political stance despite differing party affiliations. He emphasized that shared objectives must take precedence over political differences.

"What matters is that we speak with one voice and share one goal—the welfare of Aceh," Khalid said.

The meeting concluded with a collective agreement that the UUPA revision must prioritize stronger regional authority and improved fiscal structure for Aceh. Participants also reaffirmed their commitment to continued cross-party collaboration in advancing the province's special autonomy agenda. (IDNC)
