MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Mayor of Medan, Rico Waas, has welcomed innovative proposals from the Association of Water Entrepreneurs (PERANTARA) aimed at improving access to clean and safe drinking water across the city. The initiative aligns with the municipal government's ongoing strategy to expand basic water services as a foundation for better public health.
The support was conveyed during an official audience between Mayor Rico Waas and PERANTARA leadership at the mayoral residence on Jalan Sudirman, Medan, on Monday, June 15, 2026. During the meeting, PERANTARA presented a range of programs and cooperation concepts covering water supply improvements as well as public education on healthy living.
Rico Waas emphasized that access to clean water is a fundamental pillar in enhancing quality of life and safeguarding public health. He noted that reliable drinking water services could significantly reduce the risk of waterborne diseases.
Clean Water Initiative Welcomed by MayorThe mayor expressed appreciation for the proposal while underlining the importance of a structured review process. He stressed that the concept must be further examined by relevant technical agencies to assess its feasibility and potential impact on the city.
"Please present the concept to Bappeda and the relevant technical offices so it can be further evaluated and potential pilot projects can be considered," Rico Waas stated.
The meeting was attended by several heads of municipal agencies, including departments responsible for water resources, infrastructure and construction, housing and spatial planning, and health services. Their presence highlighted the seriousness of the city government in evaluating new collaborative models.
