MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM – The Provincial Government of North Sumatra has allocated a total of Rp 1.3 trillion for infrastructure development in 2026. The funding is part of the "Program Hasil Terbaik Cepat (PHTC) Infrastruktur Terintegrasi (INSTANSI)" initiative, introduced by Governor Bobby Nasution.
According to Chandra Dalimunthe, Head of the North Sumatra Public Works, Construction and Housing Agency (BMBKCK), the announcement was delivered during a press conference held by the Provincial Communication and Information Office at the Dekranasda foyer of the governor's office in Medan on Tuesday (May 26, 2026).
Total Budget Allocation Reaches Rp 1.37 Trillion
Chandra confirmed that the total infrastructure budget for 2026 amounts to Rp 1,372,497,925,000. The funds will be distributed across the PHTC program, Strategic Regional Projects (PSD), and several supporting infrastructure sectors.
Focus on Roads and Bridges Development
A major portion of the budget—Rp 672.22 billion—is allocated to the PHTC program, which prioritizes the construction and improvement of strategic roads and bridges across 52 key projects.
Planned works include the development of 86 kilometers of roads, routine maintenance of 11.91 kilometers, rehabilitation of one kilometer of damaged roads, and the construction of retaining walls, embankments, and gabions at 17 locations. The program also includes the construction of 32 meters of bridges, replacement of 25 meters of bridge decks, and the development of 250 meters of drainage systems.
Strengthening Regional Connectivity and Disaster Resilience
For the Strategic Regional Projects (PSD) program, the government has allocated Rp 320.2 billion. The initiative focuses on improving connectivity in remote areas through eight major projects covering 55 kilometers of new road construction.
Currently, 74.12 percent of North Sumatra's road network (3,006 kilometers) is in good condition, while 25.88 percent remains damaged. In total, around 141 kilometers of roads are targeted for development through both the PHTC and PSD programs in 2026.
An additional Rp 137 billion has been earmarked for disaster mitigation infrastructure, covering 24 projects such as protective walls, bridges, culverts, and rehabilitation of existing infrastructure.
Special Development Programs for Nias and Public Utilities
The government has also allocated Rp 83.875 billion for infrastructure development in the Nias Islands, including 8.4 kilometers of road construction and 70.6 meters of bridge development.
Additional funding sources include Rp 16.2 billion from palm oil revenue-sharing (DBH) for 2.7 kilometers of road construction, as well as Rp 143 billion from regional transfers supporting various infrastructure projects.
For public utility improvements, Rp 3.9 billion will be used for planning clean water and sanitation systems in Nias. Meanwhile, Rp 12 billion has been allocated for the expansion of the Cemara wastewater treatment plant (IPAL Cemara). (IDNC)
