DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM ~ The Government of Deli Serdang is intensifying efforts to strengthen the Koperasi Desa Merah Putih (KDMP) as a strategic pillar for sustainable local economic development.
The initiative was highlighted by Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan during a meeting with Ambar Pertiwiningrum, Special Advisor to Indonesia's Minister of Cooperatives for Productive and Creative Cooperative Economy, at the
Deli Serdang Regent's Office on Friday, February 27, 2026.
According to the regent, cooperatives must establish clear business models and secure reliable markets to remain competitive in the long term.

When government programs guarantee demand, it creates significant opportunities for village cooperatives to grow sustainably," Asri Ludin stated.
He also emphasized the need for concrete technical guidelines to enable the Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) — a government nutrition fulfillment service unit — to collaborate with KDMP as a logistics partner.

Under the proposed model, SPPG would prioritize sourcing logistics and goods from KDMP and urban-based cooperatives, Koperasi Kelurahan Merah Putih (KKMP), within Deli Serdang.
This framework is designed to ensure that economic value creation remains within the region. Asri Ludin noted that such a system would stimulate cooperative growth, energize local markets, and deliver direct benefits to rural communities.
Beyond market access, the local government is also investing in capacity-building initiatives. Training programs and structured mentoring aim to enhance managerial competence among KDMP leaders and ensure professional governance standards.

KDMP and KKMP are key instruments in strengthening a locally anchored rural economy. However, she stressed that formal establishment alone is not sufficient — professional management and sustainable member productivity are critical.
"Cooperative boards must receive continuous guidance and capacity strengthening. A cooperative cannot exist merely on paper; it must be capable of professionally managing larger business volumes," Ambar emphasized.
The central government is also encouraging
KDMP to align with strategic national programs, including
SPPG. Through such partnerships, village cooperatives are expected to emerge as stable suppliers of regional raw materials and key local products.
With integrated policy support, structured supervision, and guaranteed market access, Deli Serdang aims to position its village cooperatives as resilient drivers of inclusive regional growth. (IDNC)
