DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM – Deputy Regent of Deli Serdang, Lom Lom Suwondo, virtually attended the official launch of 1,061 Red-and-White Village and Urban Cooperatives (KDKMP) on Saturday, May 16, 2026. The inauguration was led directly by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto from the KDMP Center in Sidoarjo I Pasar Miring, Pagar Merbau District.
The launch marks a strategic government initiative aimed at strengthening local economies through the development of village- and urban-based cooperative systems across Indonesia.
President Targets Tens of Thousands of Cooperatives

President Prabowo stated that preparations for the physical infrastructure of the cooperative outlets had been underway since November last year.
"By saying Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, today, Saturday, May 16, 2026, I officially inaugurate the operation of 1,061 Red-and-White Village and Urban Cooperatives," the President declared during the ceremonial launch.

President Prabowo emphasized that the KDKMP program is expected to become a driving force for rural economic growth while fostering long-term economic independence within local communities.
"I have been informed that by August we are targeting the launch of 30,000 cooperatives. Even if we achieve only 20,000 units, it would still be an extraordinary accomplishment rarely seen in many other countries," he said.

The development of Red-and-White Cooperatives in Deli Serdang continues to show encouraging progress. According to the regional administration, out of the 394 cooperatives planned in the regency, 196 village cooperatives have already submitted land requests for the construction of their offices.
Construction activities are currently underway at 124 locations across several villages. As of Monday, May 12, 2026, a total of 19 cooperative office buildings had been completed and are ready to support local economic activities.

Government Pushes Rural Economic Independence
The Red-and-White Village and Urban Cooperative program is one of the Indonesian government's flagship initiatives to build a community-based economic system at the village level.
Through the program, the government aims to create an independent and sustainable economic ecosystem in local communities. The nationwide operation of these cooperatives is also expected to improve the distribution of local products, create new employment opportunities, and increase the competitiveness of rural economies at the national level.
