DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM – The Regent of Deli Serdang, Asri Ludin Tambunan, has urged the state electricity company PLN to adopt a more selective approach in granting electricity connections. The policy is aimed at preventing social conflicts, illegal construction, and agricultural disputes across the regency.
The statement was delivered during a meeting with the Manager of PLN Customer Service Unit (UP3) Lubuk Pakam at the UP3 office in Lubuk Pakam on Friday, May 8, 2026.

He noted that electricity supply should not only meet public demand but also align with spatial planning and its social impact.
He specifically called on PLN to reject electricity connection requests for buildings or business facilities operating without proper permits, particularly those that could trigger social issues. He also highlighted the need for stricter monitoring of electricity connections for street vendors (PKL) amid ongoing restructuring efforts in the micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) sector.
"If such locations have the potential to create negative social impacts, then they should not be provided with electricity. We do not want to create new problems that burden the community," he said.

The Regent also stressed the importance of synchronizing data between PLN and the local government, particularly regarding electricity customers and regional tax records. According to him, this step is crucial to prevent administrative misuse and ensure better governance.
"Customer numbers are important because they also affect local revenue, but spatial planning and social order must be considered together," Asri Ludin explained.
He further reaffirmed the local government's support for national strategic programs, including food security initiatives that require stable and reliable electricity infrastructure.

PLN Reaffirms Commitment to Reliable Power Supply
Manager of PLN UP3 Lubuk Pakam, M. Harryadi, reaffirmed PLN's commitment to maintaining a reliable electricity supply to support regional development.
He noted that UP3 Lubuk Pakam serves Deli Serdang, Serdang Bedagai, and Simalungun, with approximately 436,000 customers. In Deli Serdang alone, PLN currently serves 246,241 customers.
As of April 2026, PLN has also contributed around IDR 25.1 billion to local revenue through electricity service taxes.
"This meeting is very important for strengthening cooperation with the local government. We are committed to ensuring a reliable electricity supply to support regional development," Harryadi said. (IDNC)
