BATAM | INDATANEWS.COM – The 2026 International Workers' Day (May Day) commemoration in Batam City was held safely, orderly, and without incident. Security operations were jointly coordinated by the Barelang Police (Polresta Barelang), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the municipal government, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth proceedings across all main events.
Approximately 1,000 workers participated in the two central locations: Dataran Engku Putri in Teluk Tering, Batam Kota, and the Welcome to Batam (WTB) area in Batam Center.
Coordinated Security Across Two Main Venues

The security operation in Batam Kota was directly overseen by Police Commissioner AKP Benny Syahrizal, who coordinated field activities and ensured real-time monitoring of the situation.

The activities included a communal clean-up campaign, group exercise, the transportation of 26 garbage trucks to the Punggur landfill, as well as ceremonial events such as the singing of the national anthem, prayers, speeches, a symbolic tumpeng-cutting ceremony, and a raffle. As part of social outreach, the Riau Islands Police Chief also distributed 750 food packages to workers.
Peaceful Demonstration and Workers' Aspirations

The agenda included a security briefing, submission of a petition to the city council, and various cultural and social activities.
Security coordination at the site was led by AKP Arbi Guna Bimantara, ensuring that all activities proceeded in an orderly and controlled manner under close supervision of law enforcement personnel.

Leaders Emphasize Solidarity and WelfareFSP LEM SPSI Batam Chairman Marga Surya Satra highlighted May Day as an important moment to strengthen solidarity between workers and the government.
Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad praised the discipline shown by participants and reaffirmed the city government's commitment to improving workers' welfare. Meanwhile, Riau Islands Police Chief Inspector General Pol. Asep Safrudin commended the peaceful nature of the demonstrations and reaffirmed the police's role as a protector and servant of the community.
