DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - Improving healthcare provision and renovating uninhabitable homes are among the key priorities in Deli Serdang Regency's development agenda for 2027. The Deli Serdang Regency Government is advancing programmes designed to deliver direct benefits to residents. These include the construction of healthcare facilities, the development of public spaces and measures to strengthen residents' economic circumstances.
Deli Serdang Deputy Regent Lom Lom Suwondo SS stressed the need for the regional government to strengthen its cooperation with the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) to ensure that all development programmes reflect the needs of the public and are implemented in a targeted manner.
He delivered the message at the closing session of the Deli Serdang Regional House of Representatives' working meeting. The meeting focused on accountability reports from parliamentary committees and the preparation of the work plan for 2027. The event took place on Friday, 16 October 2026, at the Wing Hotel Kualanamu in Batang Kuis District.
On the occasion, Lom Lom read out a speech on behalf of Deli Serdang Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan. The address highlighted the importance of cooperation between the executive and legislative branches in advancing regional development and improving public services.
"Cooperation between the regency government and the Regional House of Representatives must be further strengthened so that development priorities can be determined in line with the needs of the public. Given the limited budget, every programme must be implemented in a targeted manner and deliver tangible benefits to residents," Lom Lom said.

Healthcare and Decent Housing Take Centre Stage
For 2027, the Deli Serdang Regency Government has identified healthcare, education, the strengthening of the local economy and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), infrastructure, and public services as its main priorities.
In the healthcare sector, the regional government is advancing the construction of Hamparan Perak Regional General Hospital (RSUD) and the Medan Krio Community Health Centre (Puskesmas). The new facilities are expected to improve access to medical care and raise the quality of healthcare services available to residents.
The government will also continue the Bebenah Kampung programme, which focuses on renovating uninhabitable homes. The initiative aims to improve residents' housing conditions while creating safer and more liveable neighbourhoods.
In addition, the government plans to build central public squares in individual districts. These spaces will provide residents with venues for a range of social activities.
All these programmes support the vision of a healthy, educated, prosperous, religious and sustainably developed Deli Serdang. Achieving these objectives, however, will require careful planning, appropriate prioritisation and responsible management of public funds.

Regional Parliament Urged to Strengthen Budget Oversight
Lom Lom said the two-day working meeting provided an opportunity to evaluate the institutional performance of the Regional House of Representatives while preparing a more focused work plan. Through its legislative, budgeting and oversight functions, the parliament plays an important role in ensuring that government programmes are implemented properly.
Cooperation between the two institutions is essential to ensure that budget allocations genuinely address residents' needs. Given the region's limited financial resources, the regional government and parliament must prioritise programmes with clearly defined objectives and the potential to deliver tangible improvements to people's lives.
The Deli Serdang Regency Government once again received an unqualified audit opinion, known in Indonesia as Wajar Tanpa Pengecualian (WTP), from the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia for its 2025 financial statements. The assessment is an important indicator of the quality of regional financial management. However, it must be accompanied by consistent measures to safeguard accountability and transparency in the use of public funds.
Deli Serdang Deputy Speaker of the Regional House of Representatives Agustiawan Saragih reminded participants that the working meeting should serve as an opportunity to evaluate performance and make improvements, rather than simply being treated as a routine event.
"Residents judge us not only by what we say, but also by what we actually do and the benefits they receive from our actions," he said.
Agustiawan emphasised that the Regional House of Representatives must follow up on all recommendations from the working meeting with clear objectives and measurable outcomes. This approach is intended to strengthen oversight and ensure the implementation of policy decisions and budget measures that reflect the needs of the public.
The working meeting was also attended by Deli Serdang Deputy Speaker Kuzu SW Tarigan, several members of the Regional House of Representatives, representatives of the Deli Serdang Regency Government, and the head of Batang Kuis District.
Ultimately, the success of Deli Serdang's 2027 development agenda will be measured by the tangible benefits it delivers to residents. Key indicators will include improved access to healthcare,
decent housing, adequate infrastructure and increasingly high-quality public services.
